Civilian employees play a critical role in delivering services to our communities and supporting our local, provincial and national policing priorities. The Detachment Services Assistant provides administrative and operational support services for police officers and other employees at a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachment. This position also provides front counter and telephone assistance, services and information to the general public. Intent of the process
This is an anticipatory staffing process designed to create a pool of qualified candidates. The pool of qualified candidates may be used to staff similar positions at this group and level with various security requirements, conditions of employment as well as various tenures. Please note that an assignment appointment requires approval of your supervisor. Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

Conditions of employment
Reliability Status security clearance - RCMP Enhanced Reliability Status Security Clearance. NOTE: Successful candidates will require a valid RCMP security clearance prior to appointment and throughout the tenure of their employment. The process to obtain RCMP security clearance involves a security/reliability interview and a field investigation regarding matters of criminal activity which includes reference checks, verification of credit/financial status,



education, employment, etc. As such, the process may take several weeks or months to complete. To be granted RCMP security clearance and to maintain the ethical standards of the RCMP, candidates must not be, or have been, involved in certain criminal activities, have been dishonourably discharged, have pending personal bankruptcies, etc. For additional information and a complete list of activities, please visit http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/en/qualifications-and-requirements and read the section titled “To apply as a police officer, you must not have”, as well as the applicable considerations. The security requirements are the same for all employees of the RCMP.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Willingness and ability to work in a busy police environment, including exposure to unsettling and/or graphic material.
Willingness and ability to work overtime as and when needed, sometimes on short notice.
Valid provincial driver's license or personal mobility to the degree normally associated with a driver's license.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS (EXPERIENCE):

AE1. Experience in providing administrative support services in an office environment.
AE2. Experience inputting and/or manipulating data from an electronic database.
AE3. Experience in using computer applications including email, spreadsheets and word processing.
AE4. Experience in providing records management services such as indexing, cross-referencing, filing, retrieving, retaining, archiving or destroying data.
AE5. Experience in delivering services to clients involving obtaining and providing information requiring explanation or clarification.
AE6. Experience working within a police or legal services environment.
AE7. Experience in the use of a financial management system such as SAP (TEAM). Administrative support services - defined as, for example, but not limited to: managing agendas, scheduling and organizing meetings/teleconferences, preparing and collating meeting file folders and background materials, procuring office equipment and supplies, maintaining a filing system, processing and preparing correspondence, receiving calls and welcoming visitors and other related duties.
