Senior Cloud Network Engineer at Telesat. About the role Telesat is on the lookout for a skilled technical expert to oversee and enhance our cloud infrastructure. This role involves bridging our on-premises data centers with cloud environments and creating automation tools that will assist our operational teams in preparation for the upcoming launch of the Telesat Lightspeed LEO satellite network, scheduled for 2027.

What you'll do Seamlessly integrate cloud operations with various SaaS platforms, including Gitlab, Jama, Jira, Confluence, Workday, and Salesforce to enhance workflow efficiency.
Design, implement, and maintain networking components within the Azure environment, focusing on hybrid connectivity, routing protocols, and security measures.
Utilize automation tools such as Terraform, PowerShell, Azure CLI, and Azure ARM templates to streamline network deployments and reduce manual intervention.
Collaborate with teams in cybersecurity, DevOps, and solutions architecture to assess and enhance network performance and reliability.
Manage both physical and virtual hardware, including routers, switches, gateways, and firewalls, ensuring optimal operation and security.
Develop metrics and monitoring systems that support Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and operational workflows, enabling proactive management of network health.
Coordinate maintenance schedules and manage downtime in accordance with established change management protocols to minimize disruption.




Participate in incident response and troubleshooting efforts to resolve network issues swiftly and efficiently.
Stay updated on industry trends and best practices to continuously improve network architecture and operational processes.
Document network configurations, processes, and procedures to ensure clarity and compliance across teams.
Engage in training and mentoring junior staff members to foster a knowledgeable and skilled team workplace.
Requirements A bachelor's degree in a technical or engineering discipline, or equivalent professional experience in a related field.
At least 5 years of hands-on experience managing enterprise networks and data centers, with a solid understanding of load balancers, switches, and firewalls.
A minimum of 3 years of experience in deploying, managing, and automating cloud-based networks, demonstrating a strong grasp of cloud technologies.
Proven expertise in working with Kubernetes network environments, showcasing the ability to manage containerized applications effectively.
Proficiency in Azure Hub and Spoke architectures, as well as Virtual Networks (VNETs), is essential for this role.
Experience with virtual firewall technologies, particularly Palo Alto and Fortigate, is highly desirable.




Willingness to work onsite in the Ottawa office at least 4 days per week to foster collaboration and team dynamics.
Eligibility to work in Canada and the ability to obtain Canadian Controlled Goods Program clearance is mandatory.
Nice to have Familiarity with troubleshooting in AWS or GCP network environments, adding versatility to your skill set.
Understanding of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles, which can enhance operational efficiency and reliability.
Experience with network performance monitoring tools and analytics to drive improvements in network reliability and performance.
Skills & tools Strong knowledge of Azure administration and security protocols, ensuring the integrity and security of cloud resources.
Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methodologies using tools like Terraform, Bash, and Python for efficient resource management.
Competence in Linux administration, which is crucial for managing various network applications and services.
Familiarity with network appliances, including Fortinet, Palo Alto, and Azure native firewalls, to ensure robust security measures are in place.
