What you'll do Develop and create high-resolution textures for a variety of 3D models, ensuring they meet the artistic and technical standards of the project.
Collaborate closely with the art director and other team members to establish and maintain the visual style of the project.
Utilize industry-standard software to produce textures, including but not limited to Substance Painter, Mari, and Photoshop.
Conduct thorough research to gather reference materials that inform texture creation, ensuring authenticity and realism in your work.
Implement and refine shading networks to achieve desired surface qualities, including color, reflectivity, and surface detail.
Work with lighting artists to ensure textures respond correctly under various lighting conditions, enhancing the overall look of the scene.
Participate in peer reviews and provide constructive feedback to fellow artists, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in texture and look development techniques, integrating current methods into your workflow as appropriate.
Troubleshoot and resolve any texture-related issues that arise during production, maintaining a focus on quality and efficiency.
Assist in the development of texture libraries and workflows that streamline the look development process for future projects.
Communicate effectively with other departments, including modeling and rigging, to ensure seamless integration of textures into the production pipeline.
Contribute to the overall success of the project by meeting deadlines and maintaining a high level of artistic quality throughout the production cycle.
Requirements A minimum of 3 years of experience in texture and look development within the visual effects or animation industry.
Proficiency in industry-standard software such as Maya, Blender, or 3ds Max, in addition to texturing tools like Substance Painter and Mari.
Strong understanding of materials and their properties, including how they interact with light and environment.
A solid portfolio showcasing your texture work and look development projects, demonstrating your artistic skills and technical proficiency.
Excellent attention to detail and the ability to produce high-quality work under tight deadlines.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
Nice to have Experience with procedural texturing techniques and tools, such as Houdini or similar software.
Familiarity with game engines like Unreal Engine or Unity, particularly in relation to texture implementation.
Knowledge of traditional art techniques and principles, which can enhance your digital work.
Previous experience working on feature films or high-end television productions.
A background in fine arts or a related field, providing a strong foundation for artistic development.
Skills & tools Proficient in texturing software: Substance Painter, Mari, Photoshop.
Familiar with 3D modeling software: Maya, Blender, 3ds Max.
Understanding of rendering engines and their settings, such as Arnold, V-Ray, or Redshift.
Strong artistic skills, including an eye for color, composition, and detail.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment while also being self-motivated.
