We are hiring two (2) full-time permanent Technologist, Survey position s working out of Hugh J. Bolton South Service in Edmonton, Alberta.

The Survey Technologist is accountable for field surveying, facility locating, and marking. This includes independently operating survey equipment (GPS and Total Station equipment) and GBIS technology to complete survey tasks. The Survey Technologist oversees maintaining, supplying and equipping survey vehicle with the proper tools, equipment and supplies

The Survey Technologist is accountable to Manager, Survey & Distribution Standards and operates within the context and prescribed limits established by Manager, Survey & Distribution Standards .

What You’d Be Responsible For

Provide input to the Manager, Survey & Distribution Standards plans and directions, and ensure on-going appropriate relationships with other positions.

Perform duties as directed by the Survey Lead (T4) within the context and prescribed limits of the Manager, Survey & Distribution Standards

Ensure the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics.

Coordinate and execute as-builts and construction layout

Perform preliminary surveying, staking, total stationing and topographical survey

Performing surveys for ground profiles and wire heights

Complete survey calculations as necessary to maintain accurate measurements for onsite measurements

Identify,



tracing and/or locate of 72/240kv lines and other buried EPCOR facilities such as primary, secondary, streetlighting and water lines.

Ensure the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics. Survey data and locates must be accurate and completed on time. Results must be recorded and reported accurately into existing GIS information management system.

Calibrate, troubleshoot and maintain survey equipment and simple instruments used for survey and locates

Maintaining and supplying survey vehicle with proper tools and equipment

Administer and prioritize work orders

Complete time sheets

Obtain and review any applicable procedures related to work tasks.

Meet with engineers and field crews to coordinate work and confirm accuracy of field prints

Meet with external customers and explain work to be done

Following all EPCOR policies including workplace safety policies, Respectful Workplace, Ethics, Acceptable Use, etc.

Follow all safety procedures and maintain knowledge, training and proficiency in WHIMIS, MSDS, First Aid and defensive driving.

Collecting asset location data and reporting it to Design and Project Management groups.

Demonstrate a high performance, high discipline, safe, accountable, focused, innovative and achievement-oriented, easy to do business with manner of working.

What’s Required to be Successful

Two-year post-secondary diploma in Survey Technology, geomatics engineering technology or other related technical program-eligible for registration with ASET

A minimum of 4-6 years’ experience in field survey applications is required. This would include experience in operating Total Station technology and GPS systems

Knowledge of construction layout, staking, and as-building is essential

Experience in completing coordinate calculations and identifying all types of equipment in use at EPCOR is required

Familiarity with EPCOR Safe Work Procedures and customer relation skills is necessary

This position requires the employee to be able to work both in a team setting and alone as required.

The employee must be able to set priorities and manage time effectively to complete assigned tasks.

The Survey Technologist I must be able to maintain a working relationship with their supervisor and inform superior of any pertinent issues related to surveying or personnel.

This position requires robust communication skills as they deal with external and internal customers on a daily basis

The Tech I must act in a professional manner and control emotions

Other Important Facts About This Job
Jurisdiction: CSU52

Class: T 2

Wage: $49.93 - $59.56

Final Wage and Step will be determined at the time of selection and is based on a combination of factors as outlined in CA that may be found online.

Hours of work: 80 hours bi-weekly Monday to Friday

A requirement of working for EPCOR is that you are at least 18 years of age, successfully attained a high school diploma (GED, or equivalent level of secondary education) and legally entitled to work in Canada. (A copy of a valid work permit may be required.)

If you are considered for the position, clearance on all applicable background checks (which may include criminal, identity, educational, and/or credit) and professional reference checks is required. Some EPCOR positions require an enhanced level of background assessment, which is dictated by law. These positions require advanced criminal record checks that must also be conducted from time to time after commencement of employment.

A technical/practical assessment may be administered during the selection process and this exercise will be used as a part of the selection criterion.

To meet the physical demands required of some positions, candidates must be in valuable physical condition and willing to work in all weather conditions. Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing may be required.

Prior infractions for unsafe driving behaviours will be evaluated and considered for non-selection regardless of current demerits on file.
