ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
NL Health Services – Eastern Urban Zone is seeking two (2) full-time Urgent Care Physicians at the Urgent Care Centre East in St. John's, NL. The successful candidates will report to the Clinical Chief of Primary Health Care, Eastern Urban Zone.
The Urgent Care Centre East will provide immediate medical services for acute and chronic non-life-threatening conditions, ensuring timely same-day or next-day access to care.
Services will include assessment and treatment of a wide range of presentations including sprains, minor fractures, infections, lacerations, and other urgent but non-emergent conditions. The UCC East will be equipped with on-site or co-located diagnostic services including X-ray, point-of-care ultrasound (PoCUS), and basic laboratory testing to support rapid diagnosis and treatment.
We are looking for individuals with strong leadership and communication skills who can work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Current licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (www.cpsnl.ca)
- Eligible for membership of the medical staff of NL Health Services
- Eligible for academic appointment with Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador
- Demonstrates commitment to patient-focused care and evidence-based practice
- Competency and/or experience in the clinical program area
- Must satisfy credentialing requirements of NL Health Services including a satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector check
Candidates must meet one of the following certification requirements:
- Certification in Emergency Medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC); or
- Certification by the Canadian College of Family Physicians (CCFP)
with Emergency Medicine Certification; or
- Certification as a Family Medicine specialist with CCFP designation or equivalent; or
- Recognition as a Family Medicine specialist with the equivalent of a CCFP designation by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (CPSNL) by virtue of equivalent credentials acceptable to both CPSNL and NL Health Services
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide assessment and treatment of urgent but non-emergent conditions including sprains, minor fractures, infections, lacerations, and related presentations
- Utilize on-site diagnostic services including X-ray, PoCUS, and laboratory testing to support clinical decision making
- Provide same-day or next-day urgent care services to patients of all age groups
- Work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
- Support person- and family-centered care; promote patient and worker safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements
REMUNERATION
Remuneration will be in accordance with As per Memorandum of Agreement for salaried physicians in Newfoundland and Labrador. Starting salary will be based on years of clinical experience.
