All candidates are responsible for troubleshooting, repairing and overhauling engines, brakes, driveline components, hydraulic systems and electrical components.
They have to estimate the resources and materials it’ll take to get the job done in a smart, cost-effective way.
They also have to complete preventive maintenance checks and diagnostic work on vehicles and equipment.
Candidates will refer to and follow technical manuals, policies, safety requirements and industry standards.
They have to record their work in our computerised fleet management system.
Candidates will be responsible for doing paperwork for inspections, authorization forms and provincial certification forms – manually and on a computer.
They will also learn and share what they know like mentor apprentices and semi-skilled helpers and participate in safety and environmental meetings and training programs.
Job requirement All candidates must have Recognized Journeyman certification in the Trade of Heavy Equipment Technician (H.E.T.).
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence is also required.
They must have eligibility to be licensed by the Province of Alberta to do Commercial Vehicle Inspections (CVIP).
They also must have strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills and be able to understand, communicate, read and write English at a level needed to meet job-related tasks.
Demonstrating service excellence, embracing diversity and promoting inclusiveness is also required for this position.
Work setting All candidates must have physical fitness to lift at least 75 pounds.
They have to accurately enter data and information into a computer.
They also must have the ability to perform field work and be on-call when needed.
Candidates must be capable of competently using vehicle diagnostic computer programs.
