About the role Robinhood is on the lookout for a skilled legal expert to enhance its regulatory and product counsel team, particularly focusing on cryptocurrency. In this position, you will report directly to the Senior Director and Deputy General Counsel for Crypto. Collaborating closely with the product and compliance teams, your role will be pivotal in advancing the company's mission to democratize finance for all.
Key facts Location: Toronto, Canada
Engagement: Full-time, with a requirement to be in the office at least three days a week
Salary: CAD 144,500 to CAD 170,000 base salary
Team: Regulatory and Product Counsel (Crypto)
What you'll do Provide legal guidance on the development and implementation of retail cryptocurrency products and services throughout their lifecycle.
Oversee intricate legal inquiries by liaising with both internal teams and external legal advisors.
Assess legal and regulatory risks, offering strategic solutions that align with product goals.
Ensure compliance with applicable laws and industry regulations relevant to cryptocurrency.
Stay updated on legal developments concerning cryptocurrency in Canada and offer timely advice.
Engage with Canadian securities regulators and self-regulatory organizations to ensure compliance.
Foster internal collaborations to facilitate the launch of new product features.
Serve as a business stakeholder to enhance product ownership and accountability.
Assist with various legal tasks as needed by the organization to support its operations.
Participate in cross-functional projects, translating complex legal concepts for non-legal personnel.
Contribute to the development of internal policies and procedures related to cryptocurrency compliance.
Requirements Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from a law school recognized by the Federation of Law Societies of Canada.
Active membership in good standing with at least one provincial or territorial bar in Canada.




A minimum of seven years of relevant professional experience in a law firm, government agency, or within the fintech, financial, or technology sectors.
Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks pertaining to cryptocurrency, securities, derivatives, sanctions, or money transmission.
Proven ability to convey legal concepts to non-legal team members and lead cross-functional initiatives.
A proactive and self-driven approach to work, with a strong emphasis on problem-solving and innovative thinking.
Nice to have Experience working in a rapid-paced startup environment or a rapidly evolving industry.
Familiarity with international cryptocurrency regulations and compliance standards.
Previous involvement in product development or management within the fintech sector.
Strong negotiation skills and experience in dealing with regulatory bodies.
Knowledge of legal technology tools that enhance efficiency in legal processes.
Skills & tools Proficiency in legal research and analysis tools.
Familiarity with compliance management software and project management tools.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment while also being capable of independent work.
Competence in drafting legal documents, including contracts, compliance policies, and regulatory filings.
