Assistant Controller at Solace.
About the role As an Assistant Controller at Solace, you will play a pivotal role in our finance department, contributing to the overall financial health and operational efficiency of the organization.

What you’ll do Oversee the preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting principles and company policies.
Assist in the development and monitoring of annual budgets, providing insights and recommendations to improve financial performance.
Manage the month-end close process, including reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analysis to ensure timely reporting.
Collaborate with internal teams to provide financial insights that support operational decisions and strategic initiatives.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal controls, identifying areas for improvement and implementing best practices.
Support the external audit process by preparing necessary documentation and liaising with auditors to facilitate a smooth review.
Develop and maintain financial models to support forecasting and long-term planning efforts.
Train and mentor junior finance staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and career development within the team.
Assist in the implementation of current accounting software and systems to enhance reporting capabilities and streamline processes.
Prepare ad-hoc financial reports and analyses as requested by management to support decision-making.
Monitor cash flow and working capital to ensure the company maintains adequate liquidity for operations.
Participate in cross-functional projects that require financial expertise, contributing to the overall success of the organization.
Requirements Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation is highly preferred.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or finance, with a focus on financial reporting and analysis.
Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial regulations.
Proven experience in managing month-end close processes and preparing financial statements.
Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems is a plus.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities effectively.
Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing financial issues.
Nice to have Experience in the technology sector or a fast-growing company is advantageous.
Familiarity with financial modeling and forecasting techniques.
Previous experience with audit processes and working with external auditors.
Knowledge of tax regulations and compliance requirements.
Experience with process improvement initiatives and implementing best practices in finance.
Skills & tools Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Effective interpersonal skills, fostering collaboration and teamwork within the finance department and across the organization.
Practical notes This position is based in Ottawa, Ontario, and may require occasional overtime during peak periods, such as month-end close and budget preparation.
The role may involve remote work flexibility, depending on company policies and team needs.
Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada and may require assistance with work authorization if applicable.
