What you'll do Design, develop, and enhance IT systems that meet the diverse needs of our corporate, scientific, and manufacturing teams within a hybrid infrastructure.
Collaborate closely with engineering, scientific, and platform teams to modernize and optimize our IT framework effectively.
Establish and refine standards for systems architecture and operations, leveraging infrastructure-as-code, configuration management, and automation to improve service quality and consistency.
Lead initiatives aimed at enhancing the availability, resilience, and efficiency of our critical systems.
Contribute to the infrastructure roadmap, ensuring a balance between immediate improvements and long-term platform requirements.
Mentor and guide team members, fostering their growth and serving as a trusted advisor on complex technical challenges.
Implement best practices for security and compliance in IT systems, particularly in regulated environments.
Evaluate and integrate new technologies and tools that can enhance our IT capabilities and support our mission.
Requirements Significant experience in constructing and managing both cloud (AWS) and on-premises infrastructure, with a proven history of successfully leading technical projects from start to finish.
A strong eagerness to learn and a comprehensive understanding of systems,



with a keen interest in the scientific implications of your work.
A systems-oriented mindset that employs modern methodologies such as infrastructure-as-code, automation, and observability as key components of your toolkit.
At least 8 years of relevant experience in operating production infrastructure, along with a Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline; candidates with 6+ years of experience and a Master's degree will also be considered.
Proven ability to enhance the technical capabilities of a team through mentorship and thought leadership, irrespective of formal management roles.
Strong communication skills to effectively engage with a diverse array of stakeholders, including engineers, developers, and scientists, while adopting a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
Experience with cloud-native modernization techniques (such as containers and serverless architectures), supporting scientific or manufacturing environments, or working in regulated industries (GxP, SOC2, etc.).
Nice to have Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools that enhance collaboration between development and operations teams.
Experience in implementing CI/CD pipelines to streamline software deployment processes.
Knowledge of data management and analytics tools that can support scientific research and development efforts.
Skills & tools Proficient in AWS services and cloud architecture design.




Strong understanding of infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
Experience with configuration management tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
Familiarity with container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes or Docker Swarm.
Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools to ensure system reliability and performance.
Practical notes The salary range for the Senior Systems Engineer position at AbCellera is CAD $102,000 - $128,000 annually, depending on qualifications and relevant experience.
