What you'll do Design and analyze structural systems for various projects, including residential, commercial, and industrial buildings, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards.
Collaborate with architects and other engineering disciplines to create integrated design solutions that meet project specifications and client needs.
Conduct structural assessments and evaluations of existing buildings, providing recommendations for repairs, renovations, or upgrades.
Prepare detailed engineering calculations, reports, and documentation to support design decisions and project proposals.
Utilize advanced software tools for structural modeling and analysis, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in design processes.
Participate in project meetings and presentations, effectively communicating technical information to clients, stakeholders, and team members.
Oversee construction activities to ensure that structural elements are built according to design specifications and quality standards.
Stay updated on industry trends, materials, and technologies to incorporate innovative solutions into projects.
Mentor junior engineers and interns, providing guidance and support in their career development.
Manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
Conduct site visits and inspections to monitor progress and ensure compliance with engineering designs and safety regulations.
Collaborate with regulatory agencies to obtain necessary permits and approvals for construction projects.
Requirements Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in structural engineering, with a focus on building design.
Proficiency in structural analysis and design software, such as AutoCAD, Revit, SAP2000, or similar tools.
Strong understanding of building codes, standards, and regulations applicable in British Columbia.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically in complex situations.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey technical information to diverse audiences.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, demonstrating leadership and initiative.
Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high-quality work.
Valid Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation in British Columbia or the ability to obtain it within a specified timeframe. Familiarity with sustainable design practices and green building standards is a plus.
Nice to have Experience with seismic design and analysis, particularly in earthquake-prone regions.
Knowledge of advanced materials and construction techniques, including prefabrication and modular construction.
Previous experience in project management or leading engineering teams is advantageous.
Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes and tools.
Additional certifications in structural engineering or related fields are a plus.

Microsoft Office Suite for documentation and reporting
Project management tools for tracking progress and deadlines

Practical notes This position is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, and may require occasional travel to project sites within the region.
