What you'll do Lead and manage geotechnical engineering projects from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
Supervise and mentor a team of engineers and technical staff, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
Conduct site investigations and geotechnical assessments to evaluate soil and rock properties, providing critical data for project design.
Prepare and review geotechnical reports, ensuring they meet industry standards and client specifications.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including civil, structural, and environmental engineers, to develop integrated project solutions.
Engage with clients to understand their needs, providing expert advice and recommendations throughout the project lifecycle.
Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal regulations related to geotechnical engineering and environmental standards.
Stay updated on industry trends, technologies,
and best practices, implementing improvements to enhance service delivery.
Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
Participate in business development activities, identifying opportunities for recent projects and expanding the branch's client base.
Manage project budgets, resources, and schedules, ensuring efficient allocation and utilization of staff and materials.
Prepare proposals and presentations for potential clients, showcasing Blumetric's capabilities and expertise in geotechnical engineering.
Requirements A degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
A minimum of 7 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with a proven track record in project management.
Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation in Ontario is required.
Strong knowledge of geotechnical design principles, soil mechanics, and site investigation techniques.
Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide staff effectively.
Proficient in geotechnical software and tools, such as PLAXIS, GeoStudio, or similar applications.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy.
Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey technical information to clients and stakeholders.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Nice to have Experience in business development and client relationship management.
Familiarity with environmental regulations and sustainability practices in engineering.
Knowledge of project management methodologies and tools, such as PMP or Agile.
Previous experience in a managerial role within an engineering firm.
Membership in professional organizations related to geotechnical engineering.
Skills & tools Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software (e.g., PLAXIS, GeoStudio).
Robust understanding of AutoCAD and other design software.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for documentation and presentations.
Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with team members and clients.
Practical notes This position is based in Ottawa, Ontario, and may require occasional travel to project sites.
