Product Engineer at orbital. About the role Orbital is assembling a compact, high-autonomy product team on the west coast, strategically located to be close to our customers and deeply attuned to their requirements. As a Product Engineer, you will take charge of the entire product lifecycle, from engaging with customers to delivering features that enhance their experience. This role emphasizes core product development rather than client-specific modifications, focusing on creating genuinely valuable solutions for everyday users. Additionally, you will act as the internal expert on the unique characteristics of west coast law firms. Key facts Location: Vancouver Engagement: Full-time Compensation: Base salary ranges from CA$120,000 to CA$178,000 depending on experience level (Mid L3: CA$120,000 to CA$146,000; Senior L4: CA$146,000 to CA$178,000), along with equity options.
What you'll do Engage directly with customers to uncover pain points, identify unmet needs, and explore potential product enhancements.
Lead the process of transforming initial insights into fully developed features, ensuring a seamless transition without handoffs.
Assume responsibility for the overall user experience of the product, proactively addressing areas that require improvement.
Develop a deep understanding of the legal landscape on the west coast and disseminate those insights across the organization.
Collaborate closely with fellow members of the Product Engineering team to foster innovation and efficiency.
Utilize AI coding tools to streamline development processes and enhance product capabilities.




Conduct regular user testing and feedback sessions to refine product features and ensure alignment with customer expectations.
Maintain a focus on delivering high-quality products that resonate with users and drive engagement.
Requirements A strong engineering background with a focus on product development, rather than transitioning from design or project management roles.
Sufficient experience to work autonomously and produce significant contributions without needing extensive oversight.
Proficiency in utilizing AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Codex, given that a significant portion of coding is now AI-driven.
An outgoing personality with the ability to empathize with customers, making regular interactions comfortable and productive.
A genuine passion for creating exceptional product experiences that meet user needs.
Must be based in Vancouver and possess eligibility to work in Canada.
Nice to have Experience working within the legal tech sector or familiarity with legal workflows.
Previous involvement in product development roles that required a blend of technical and user-centered design skills.




Knowledge of agile methodologies and experience in iterative product development.
Familiarity with security standards, particularly ISO 27001, is a plus.
Skills & tools Proficient with AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or similar platforms.
Robust product judgment and an eye for design aesthetics that enhance user experience.
Capability to deliver products rapidly while iterating based on user feedback and market demands.
Practical notes Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.
The team occasionally meets in person in Vancouver, fostering collaboration and team cohesion.
