Senior Municipal Engineer at Gemtec Gemtec is seeking a highly skilled Senior Municipal Engineer to join our team in Saint John, New Brunswick. What you'll do - Lead the planning, design, and execution of municipal engineering projects, including roads, bridges, water supply systems, and wastewater management facilities.
- Conduct feasibility studies and prepare detailed engineering reports to assess project viability and compliance with local regulations.
- Collaborate with government agencies, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure project alignment with community needs and expectations.
- Oversee project budgets, timelines, and resources to ensure successful project delivery within established parameters.
- Utilize advanced engineering software and tools to create detailed designs and simulations for municipal infrastructure projects.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and interns, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.




- Participate in public consultations and community engagement initiatives to gather input and address concerns related to municipal projects.
- Ensure adherence to safety standards and environmental regulations throughout all phases of project development and execution.
- Prepare and present project proposals, updates, and final reports to clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
- Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in municipal engineering to enhance project outcomes and team performance.
- Conduct site visits and inspections to monitor project progress and ensure compliance with design specifications and quality standards.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate engineering solutions with urban planning and environmental sustainability initiatives.
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in municipal engineering, with a proven track record of managing complex projects from conception to completion.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in New Brunswick or eligibility for registration.
- Strong knowledge of municipal engineering principles, practices, and relevant legislation.
- Proficiency in engineering design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and GIS applications.
- Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.




- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
Nice to have - Experience with sustainable design practices and green infrastructure solutions.
- Familiarity with local government processes and regulations in New Brunswick.
- Previous experience in public engagement and community consultation related to engineering projects.
- Knowledge of environmental assessment processes and compliance requirements.
- Membership in professional engineering associations or organizations.
Skills & tools - Proficient in engineering design and analysis software, including but not limited to AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Microsoft Project.
- Strong understanding of hydraulic modeling and analysis tools.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively.
Practical notes - This position is based in Saint John, New Brunswick, and may require occasional travel to project sites within the region.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada; sponsorship may be available for exceptional candidates.
- The role may involve working in both office and field environments, requiring adaptability to varying conditions.
