What you'll do Develop and design tailings management plans that align with best practices and regulatory requirements, ensuring the safety and sustainability of tailings facilities.
Conduct detailed site assessments and geotechnical investigations to evaluate the stability and performance of existing tailings storage facilities.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to create comprehensive project proposals, including technical reports and presentations for clients and stakeholders.
Analyze data from field investigations and laboratory tests to inform design decisions and optimize tailings disposal methods.
Monitor and assess the performance of tailings facilities, implementing corrective actions as necessary to mitigate risks and enhance safety.
Prepare and review engineering calculations, drawings,
and specifications related to tailings management projects.
Engage with regulatory agencies and stakeholders to ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations throughout the project lifecycle.
Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and technical staff, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and professional development.
Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and regulations related to tailings management and contribute to the continuous improvement of company practices.
Participate in project meetings and workshops, effectively communicating technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
Assist in the preparation of project budgets, schedules, and resource allocation plans to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery.
Contribute to business development efforts by identifying opportunities for new projects and maintaining relationships with existing clients.
Requirements A degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related field.
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in tailings management or geotechnical engineering, preferably within the mining industry.
Solid understanding of tailings disposal methods, geotechnical principles, and environmental regulations.
Proficiency in engineering design software, such as AutoCAD, GeoStudio, or similar tools.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present technical information clearly to diverse audiences.
Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
A valid Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation in British Columbia or the ability to obtain it within a reasonable timeframe.
Nice to have Experience with environmental impact assessments and permitting processes related to tailings management.
Familiarity with advanced tailings technologies, such as thickened tailings or paste tailings systems.
Previous experience in project management or leading engineering teams.
Knowledge of sustainability practices and their application in the mining sector.
Membership in professional organizations related to engineering or mining.
Skills & tools Proficient in engineering software, including AutoCAD, GeoStudio, and other relevant design tools.
Strong data analysis capabilities, with experience in statistical software or programming languages (e.g., Python, R).
Familiarity with project management software and methodologies.
Excellent report writing and documentation skills.
Practical notes This position is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, and may require occasional travel to project sites.
Candidates must possess valid work authorization in Canada.
