About the role As a Buildings Electrical Engineer at Cbcl, you will play a pivotal role in the design and implementation of electrical systems for a variety of building projects. What you'll do Design and develop electrical systems for diverse building projects, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards.
Collaborate with architects, mechanical engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate electrical systems seamlessly into overall building designs.
Conduct load calculations and energy modeling to optimise electrical system performance and efficiency.
Prepare detailed electrical drawings, specifications, and documentation for project bids and construction.
Review and analyse project specifications and blueprints to identify potential challenges and propose effective solutions.
Oversee the installation of electrical systems, ensuring adherence to design specifications and safety regulations.
Perform site inspections and provide technical support during construction to resolve any issues that may arise.
Stay updated on industry trends, technologies,



and best practices to continuously improve design methodologies and project outcomes.
Assist in the preparation of project budgets and timelines, ensuring that projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
Mentor junior engineers and interns, providing guidance and support to foster their professional development.
Participate in client meetings to discuss project progress, address concerns, and gather feedback for future improvements.
Contribute to business development efforts by preparing proposals and presentations for potential clients.
Requirements Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
A minimum of 3 years of experience in electrical design, preferably in the building sector.
Proficiency in electrical design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools.
Solid understanding of electrical codes, standards, and regulations applicable to building projects.
Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to think critically under pressure.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with team members and clients.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.




Familiarity with energy efficiency practices and sustainable design principles.
Registration or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario is preferred.
Nice to have Experience with renewable energy systems, such as solar or wind power.
Knowledge of building automation systems and smart building technologies.
Previous experience in project management or leading engineering teams.
Familiarity with LEED certification processes and requirements.
Proficiency in additional design software or tools relevant to electrical engineering.

Practical notes This position is based in Ottawa, Ontario, and may require occasional travel to project sites within the region.
