Senior Software Engineer, Care Experience at Toast.
About the role Toast is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our Care Experience team in Toronto, ON. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for developing and enhancing our customer support systems, ensuring that our clients receive exceptional service. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to create innovative solutions that improve user experience and streamline operations. What you'll do Design, develop, and maintain scalable software solutions that enhance the customer support experience at Toast.
Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define and implement new features that meet user needs.
Analyze system performance and identify areas for improvement, ensuring high availability and reliability of applications.
Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code while adhering to best practices in software development.
Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and share knowledge with team members.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues in production environments, providing timely support to internal teams and customers.
Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, integrating them into our systems as appropriate.




Mentor junior engineers and contribute to their professional development through guidance and support.
Document software designs, processes, and workflows to facilitate knowledge sharing within the team.
Engage in agile development practices, participating in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
Collaborate with the QA team to develop testing strategies and ensure the delivery of high-quality software.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes and tools used by the team.
Requirements Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
A minimum of 5 years of professional software engineering experience, with a focus on web-based applications.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or JavaScript, and experience with relevant frameworks.
Strong understanding of software development methodologies, particularly Agile and DevOps practices.
Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
Familiarity with database management systems, including SQL and NoSQL databases.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.




Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
A passion for delivering high-quality software and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
Nice to have Experience in the restaurant or hospitality industry, with an understanding of the unique challenges faced by these sectors.
Knowledge of customer support tools and platforms, such as Zendesk or Salesforce.
Familiarity with front-end technologies such as React or Angular for full-stack development capabilities.
Previous experience in a startup environment, demonstrating adaptability and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Contributions to open-source projects or participation in tech communities.
