The role provides innovative and comprehensive psychiatric assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation services for individuals with complex, co‐morbid mental health, addiction and physical health issues.The clinical program model is strength‐based and supports individuals in their recovery by offering evidence‐based services including psychiatric assessment and treatment, physical health & wellness, motivational interviewing, cognitive‐behavioural therapy, psychosocial rehabilitation, and transitional discharge planning.Program DescriptionsRichmond Older Adult Mental Health Services – Consultation and follow‐up care on an outreach basis; patients are followed by a physician and case manager; multidisciplinary team includes nursing, social work, occupational therapy, general medicine, and geriatric psychiatry.Richmond Older Adults Outpatients Program – Specialized psychiatric care for adults aged 65+ through outpatient clinics, hospital consultations, and liaison services. Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive assessments and consultations for older adults with major neurocognitive disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, dementia‐related conditions with complex behavioural or psychiatric symptoms,



and comorbid medical‐psychiatric illnesses.Richmond Hospital Geriatric Psychiatry Consult Service – Provides consultation and short‐term management of general mental health conditions and cognitive disorders in geriatric patients admitted to medical and surgical units. The psychiatrist collaborates with the treating team to facilitate timely interventions and discharge planning and may supervise medical students and psychiatry residents.Geriatric Psychiatry Service on Acute Care of the Elderly Unit – Provides specialized psychiatric care to older adults admitted to the Acute Care of the Elderly Unit and collaborates with the treating team to facilitate timely interventions and discharge planning.All physicians in the Department of Psychiatry participate in the on‐call roster.The psychiatrist may also be involved in planning, implementation and evaluation of new programs, and will participate in training and education of medical students, residents and allied health professionals. Opportunities may exist for research projects and group work.Reporting RelationshipThe psychiatrist reports to the Head and Medical Director, Department of Psychiatry,



Richmond Health Services.CompensationWork includes 10 half‐days per week in a blended billing model between Older Adult Outpatient Program (0.4 FTE), Geriatric Consult‐liaison Service (0.2 FTE) and Richmond Older Adult Mental Health Team (0.4 FTE) using sessional and fee‐for‐service.
