System Administrator at Laprairie. About the role Laprairie is seeking a dedicated System Administrator to join our dynamic team in Calgary, Alberta. In this full-time position, you will play a crucial role in managing and maintaining our IT infrastructure, ensuring that our systems operate smoothly and efficiently. As a System Administrator, you will be responsible for troubleshooting issues, implementing solutions, and supporting our staff in their daily operations. Your expertise will be vital in enhancing our technological capabilities and ensuring that our systems remain secure and up-to-date.

What you'll do Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of servers and network equipment to ensure optimal performance and security.
Monitor system performance and conduct regular assessments to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary upgrades.
Provide technical support to staff, assisting with hardware and software issues, and ensuring timely resolution of any IT-related problems.
Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls to maintain security protocols and protect sensitive information.
Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, processes, and procedures to facilitate knowledge sharing within the team.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement IT solutions that align with business objectives and enhance operational efficiency.




Perform regular backups and disaster recovery operations to safeguard data integrity and ensure business continuity.
Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, recommending improvements and innovations that can benefit the organization.
Conduct training sessions for staff to enhance their understanding of IT systems and best practices.
Assist in the planning and execution of IT projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
Troubleshoot network issues and coordinate with external vendors as necessary to resolve connectivity problems.
Participate in on-call support rotation to address urgent IT issues outside of regular business hours.
Requirements A minimum of 3 years of experience in system administration or a related IT role.
Proficiency in managing Windows and Linux server environments, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
Robust understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPNs.
Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper‑V.
Familiarity with cloud services and platforms, particularly AWS or Azure, is a plus.
Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.




Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with technical and non‑technical staff.
A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred, but equivalent experience will be considered.
Relevant certifications such as CompTIA, Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) are advantageous.
Nice to have Experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python for automation tasks.
Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and experience implementing security measures.
Familiarity with ITIL framework and service management principles.
Previous experience in a similar role within the construction or engineering industry is a bonus.
Skills & tools Proficient in using system monitoring tools and software for performance analysis.
Familiarity with backup solutions and disaster recovery planning tools.
Competence in using ticketing systems for tracking and managing support requests.
Knowledge of database management systems, particularly SQL Server or MySQL.
Practical notes The position is based in Calgary, Alberta, and may require occasional travel to other company locations.
Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada and may require visa sponsorship.
The work environment is fast‑paced, and the ideal candidate should be adaptable and able to manage multiple tasks effectively.
This role may involve participation in after‑hours support and on‑call duties as needed.
