Communications Systems Engineer at Telesat. About the role Become a vital member of the Canadian Sales Engineering team at Telesat, where you will be responsible for designing, costing, and deploying advanced satellite and terrestrial communication networks. This position requires managing projects throughout their entire lifecycle, utilizing both the Telesat geostationary fleet and the innovative Telesat Lightspeed LEO constellation to fulfill the unique requirements of our clients.

What you'll do Develop and present comprehensive satellite and IP network proposals tailored to client specifications during technical discussions.
Work closely with clients to outline implementation strategies, confirm requirements, and resolve any network performance issues that arise.
Perform calculations for link budgets to determine the appropriate RF hardware, including antennas, Block Up Converters (BUCs), High Power Amplifiers (HPAs), Low Noise Block converters (LNBs), and user terminals.
Integrate satellite communication networks into existing carrier infrastructures and enterprise Wide Area Networks (WANs) by configuring both Layer 2 and Layer 3 devices.
Provide advanced support for RF and network systems, acting as a third-level support resource.
Configure and set up network equipment such as routers, switches, and firewalls, ensuring the application of security measures, Quality of Service (QoS), and routing protocols.
Create detailed technical specifications and scopes of work to solicit vendor quotations,



aiding the procurement team in negotiating prices effectively.
Travel to various customer locations and Telesat facilities to install, test, and validate RF antenna systems, ensuring they meet operational standards.
Conduct training sessions for teleport staff and field representatives on the operation and maintenance of system components.
Requirements A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science, with a specialization in Telecommunications.
Relevant professional experience with Geostationary (GEO) satellite systems, along with a basic understanding of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite systems.
Familiarity with hub-based systems, Single Channel Per Carrier (SCPC), and Very Small Aperture Terminals (VSATs).
Proficient knowledge of DVB-S2/X, Time Division Multiplexing/Access (TDM/A), satellite modems, and adaptive coding/modulation techniques.
Strong expertise in designing IP networks, including TCP/IP, Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), and Layer-2 Ethernet for both enterprise and telecommunications services.
Must be eligible to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP).
Excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken.




Proven ability to manage projects effectively, lead contractors, and perform well under pressure.
Familiarity with both Windows and Linux operating systems is essential.
Nice to have Understanding of RF systems and their components would be advantageous.
Certification or practical experience with MEF (Metro Ethernet Forum) standards is a plus.
Experience with Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Software-Defined Wide Area Networking (SD-WAN) is desirable.
Proficiency in the French language is a beneficial asset.
Skills & tools Proficient in using the Microsoft Office suite for documentation and presentations.
Familiarity with engineering simulation and analysis software to support design efforts.
Experience with testing equipment such as spectrum analyzers, radiation meters, protocol analyzers, and tools for testing fiber and copper connections.
Competence in using general hand tools and power tools for installation and maintenance tasks.
Practical notes This position involves a combination of office-based work and travel to customer or vendor sites, which may require occasional overtime and participation in on-call rotations. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada and must meet the security clearance requirements set forth by the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP).
