What you'll do Lead and manage a team of scientists and researchers focused on biological research and development projects aimed at improving crop yield and resilience.
Design and oversee experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of new biotechnological approaches in agriculture, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Collaborate with product development teams to translate research findings into practical applications that can be integrated into our product lines.
Develop and manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure successful completion of R&D; initiatives.
Analyze data from experiments and trials, preparing comprehensive reports that summarize findings and provide actionable insights for stakeholders.
Foster partnerships with academic institutions, industry leaders, and government agencies to enhance research capabilities and expand the company's network.
Stay abreast of the latest advancements in agricultural biotechnology and incorporate relevant trends into the company's R&D; strategy.
Mentor and develop team members, providing guidance and support to foster their professional growth and enhance team performance.
Present research findings and project updates to senior management and external stakeholders, effectively communicating complex scientific concepts in an accessible manner.
Contribute to the preparation of grant proposals and funding applications to secure financial support for ongoing research projects.
Ensure that all research activities adhere to ethical standards and best practices in biological research.
Participate in industry conferences and workshops to represent Vivecrop and share insights on our cutting-edge approaches to agricultural challenges.
Requirements A Ph.D. in Biology, Plant Science, Biotechnology, or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in agricultural research and development.
Proven track record of managing R&D; projects from conception through execution, demonstrating strong leadership and organizational skills.
Extensive knowledge of molecular biology techniques, plant genetics, and biotechnological applications in agriculture.
Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance issues related to agricultural biotechnology.
Strong analytical skills with experience in data analysis software and statistical methods relevant to biological research.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex scientific information to diverse audiences.
Nice to have Experience in developing and managing budgets for research projects.
Previous experience in a leadership role within a biotechnology or agricultural company.
Familiarity with sustainable agricultural practices and their integration into R&D; strategies.
Knowledge of intellectual property management and patent processes related to biotechnological innovations.
Skills & tools Proficiency in laboratory techniques such as CRISPR, gene editing, and plant tissue culture.
Experience with data analysis tools such as R, Python, or similar programming languages.
Familiarity with project management software to track progress and manage resources effectively.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Practical notes This position is based in Mississauga, Ontario, and may require occasional travel for field trials and conferences.
The salary for this role will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
