DevOps Specialist (6 months) at Cira. About the role Cira is seeking a talented DevOps Specialist for a fixed-term position lasting six months, based in Ottawa, Ontario. This role is pivotal in enhancing our operational efficiency and ensuring seamless integration between development and operations teams. The successful candidate will play a key role in automating processes, improving system reliability, and fostering a culture of collaboration within our technical teams.

What you’ll do Collaborate with software developers and system operators to streamline and automate deployment processes, ensuring faster delivery of applications.
Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines to facilitate continuous integration and continuous deployment, enhancing the overall development workflow.
Monitor system performance and reliability, utilizing various tools to identify and resolve issues proactively.
Develop and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation to ensure consistent and repeatable infrastructure provisioning.
Work closely with security teams to integrate security practices into the DevOps lifecycle, ensuring compliance and safeguarding sensitive data.
Conduct regular system audits and performance tuning to optimize resource utilization and application performance.
Provide support for troubleshooting and resolving production issues, ensuring minimal downtime and disruption to services.
Document processes,
configurations, and best practices to enhance team knowledge and facilitate onboarding of new team members.
Engage in capacity planning and resource management to ensure that systems can handle projected loads and scale as needed.
Participate in team meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement of DevOps practices within the organization.
Assist in the evaluation and adoption of new technologies and tools that can enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
Foster a culture of collaboration and communication between development and operations teams, promoting shared responsibility for application performance.
Requirements A minimum of 2 years of experience in a DevOps or related role, with a strong understanding of software development and IT operations.
Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Ruby to automate tasks and processes.
Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes.
Familiarity with cloud platforms, particularly AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and their associated services.
Strong knowledge of CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or CircleCI, and experience in setting up and managing pipelines.
Understanding of networking concepts, security protocols, and system architecture to ensure robust and secure deployments.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a rapid-paced environment.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Nice to have Experience with configuration management tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK Stack.
Knowledge of Agile methodologies and experience working in Agile teams.
Relevant certifications in DevOps practices or cloud technologies (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Certified Kubernetes Administrator).
