What you'll do Oversee the compositing team, providing guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level artists to enhance their skills and foster a collaborative environment.
Collaborate with the VFX Supervisor and other department leads to establish the visual style and ensure that the compositing work aligns with the overall vision of the project.
Review and approve shots, providing constructive feedback to artists to ensure that the final output meets the high standards of Barnstormvfx.
Manage project timelines and deliverables, ensuring that the compositing team meets deadlines while maintaining quality.
Develop and implement effective workflows and best practices for the compositing process to streamline production.
Actively participate in creative discussions and brainstorming sessions, contributing innovative ideas to enhance the visual storytelling of projects.
Troubleshoot technical issues that arise during the compositing process, ensuring that solutions are implemented quickly and effectively.
Stay updated with the latest trends and technologies in compositing and visual effects, integrating new techniques into the workflow as appropriate.
Coordinate with other departments, such as lighting and animation, to ensure seamless integration of elements across the production pipeline.
Prepare and present work to clients and stakeholders,
articulating the creative vision and technical execution of composited shots.
Assist in recruiting and training new compositing artists, ensuring that they align with the company's standards and culture.
Foster a positive and productive work environment, promoting teamwork and open communication within the compositing department.
Requirements A minimum of 5 years of experience in compositing within the visual effects industry, with a strong portfolio showcasing your work.
Proficiency in industry-standard compositing software such as Nuke, After Effects, or similar tools.
Strong understanding of color theory, lighting, and 3D integration, with the ability to create visually compelling shots.
Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to provide clear feedback and inspire a team.
Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously, with a proven track record of meeting deadlines.
Familiarity with the VFX pipeline and the ability to collaborate effectively with other departments.
Nice to have Experience with scripting or programming languages such as Python or MEL to enhance compositing workflows.
Knowledge of additional software tools like Houdini or Maya for a more integrated approach to VFX.
Previous experience in a supervisory role within a fast‑paced production environment.
Skills & tools Strong artistic eye and attention to detail, with the ability to critique and improve visual quality.
Familiarity with project management tools to track progress and manage team workloads effectively.
Ability to adapt to new technologies and software updates quickly, ensuring the team remains at the forefront of industry standards.
Practical notes This position is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, and requires candidates to be eligible to work in Canada.
