Associate Dean, Centre of Teaching, Learning and Scholarship (Term-Certain) Position Summary: In an entrepreneurial and team‑focused environment, the Associate Dean is responsible for academic leadership within their school or division and promotes excellence within a learner‑centred environment. The Associate Dean leads a comprehensive learner‑focused team with overall responsibility for the development, delivery and assessment of programs and curriculum, contributing to the institution's reputation as a hub of innovation and lifelong learning. The role also involves key decision‑making in program and course development at the institutional level, strategic direction for Program Quality Assurance, the Teaching Common, the Research Common, the Research Ethics Board, and the Canadian Council of Animal Care, and advancing the Academic Plan in collaboration across the academic portfolio. Responsibilities Academic Leadership Promote academic excellence in the development, delivery, assessment, and review of programs. Promote excellence in research and scholarship across the academic portfolio. Advance research and scholarship as aligned with the Strategic Research Plan and program mix. Create new pathways for 21st‑century academic standards and student learning assessment. Manage projects related to new and reimagined programming directions and opportunities. Facilitate curriculum approval in compliance with applicable policy and ensure design of laddering and stacking to credit programs where appropriate. Promote progressive learner‑centered delivery models. Foster broad relationships and partnerships to facilitate creative and robust academic programming. Resolve learner‑success issues. Support and facilitate research collaborations, visiting researchers, and other initiatives that allow researchers to excel. Support the operation, collaboration, and success of Centres, Institutes, and other research ventures. Teaching Excellence within a Learner‑Centered Environment Provide collaborative leadership, guidance, and support to initiatives in support of faculty and students. Lead the culture and brand of the Centre of Teaching, Learning and Scholarship, ensuring a strong record of student success. Ensure alignment of and compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory bodies that support a culture of teaching excellence and academic integrity.



Provide leadership and support for the integration of appropriate technology into the teaching and learning environment. Ensure responsible and effective use of resources to support staff development and teaching excellence. Facilitate the exploration, development, and growth of work‑integrated learning at the course and program level. Facilitate the structure and process for laddering and stacking micro‑credentials into traditional certificates, diplomas, and degree programs. Facilitate the generation of resources (funds, facilities, equipment, partnerships) to support staff and student engagement in developing alternative pathways for new and reimagined programs. Research, Creative/Scholarly Activity and Scholarship Facilitate the growth and development of a culture of research and scholarship across the institution. Maintain compliance with research policies and procedures to meet Tri‑Agency and Canadian Council of Animal Care requirements. Foster growth and development in an environment of open inquiry, creativity, and innovation. Promote research initiatives and research excellence through various means to internal and external audiences. Resolve issues related to learner success and manage resources for research staff and faculty. Develop structures and processes to ensure effective distribution and delegation of work. Maintain confidentiality of personal information in accordance with institutional policy and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. Demonstrate accountability for Occupational Health & Safety responsibilities. Internal and External Liaison Consultation between School/Division and service areas. Coordinate intra‑departmental and inter‑departmental communication. Coordinate departmental communication with college committees and facilitate participation on institution committees. Act as liaison with relevant regulatory and professional associations and other post‑secondary institutions. Set annual financial targets in collaboration with the School/Division Management Team. Ensure compliance with financial formulas outlined in the Non‑credit Programming policy.



Monitor budget and targets and adjust staffing based on revenues. Allocates resources within established budgets and manages overtime and vacation use. Analyze budgets and make in‑year adjustments to achieve expected outcomes. Provide guidance to Information Systems to investigate, implement and maintain technologies that enable a continuously improving learning environment. Facilitate the development and maintenance of effective and timely information on internal and external websites. Facilitate integration of innovative learning methodologies. Marketing & Communications Facilitate collaboration to produce effective marketing materials. Collaborate on strategic enrolment management initiatives. Provide guidance to Marketing and Communications to achieve recruitment and retention targets. Facility Management Provide guidance to Facilities Management to implement appropriate facilities. Ensure effective utilisation of facility space. Required Qualifications Minimum a relevant Master’s Degree from a recognised institution plus 5‑7 years of related experience in adult education and lifelong learning. 3‑5 years of progressively responsible leadership experience, including direct supervision of employees. Demonstrated success leading in a collaborative environment. Solid emotional intelligence (empathy and self‑management). Effective written and verbal communication skills. Proven ability to manage revenue generation/cost recovery budgets and achieve financial targets. Demonstrated effectiveness in leadership and management of change initiatives. Commitment to fostering learner‑centered principles. Proven success in curriculum development, implementation, and assessment. Knowledge and experience in research, scholarship, and scholarly activity. Ability to work collaboratively across organisational lines and divisions. Experience with educational technology. Analytical, critical, and problem‑solving skills. Inclusive leadership style that inspires trust and confidence. Ability to promote a positive environment through honesty, integrity, and ethical behaviour consistent with institutional values. Experience in creative outcomes and agile leadership.
