Fire Protection Piping Engineer Location: Burnaby, BC (Hybrid) Duration: 12-Month Contract Match

Box Consulting Group is seeking a Fire Protection Piping Engineer to support one of British Columbia''s largest utility providers.

This is an exciting chance to join the Generation Stations Mechanical Engineering Balance of Plant team, supporting critical hydroelectric generation facilities across the province.

This role focuses on the design, analysis, and implementation of fire protection systems for hydroelectric generating stations and associated infrastructure.

Projects range from equipment upgrades and lifecycle replacements to large, multidisciplinary capital programs that help ensure the safety, reliability, and resilience of BC''s power generation assets.

Responsibilities Design and develop fire protection systems for hydroelectric generating stations, including sprinkler systems, fire detection and alarm systems, special hazard protection systems, water supply systems, and associated piping networks.

Perform fire protection engineering assessments, field investigations, hazard analyses, code compliance reviews, and risk-based evaluations.

Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed engineering designs from project initiation through construction and commissioning.

Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, construction packages, and procurement documentation.

Act as the Professional of Record by preparing and sealing engineering deliverables in accordance with professional standards.

Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, testing, and project turnover.

Review engineering work completed by consultants and contractors to ensure compliance with applicable standards and project requirements.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, operations, maintenance, construction management, and project management.





Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance engineering practices, standards, and design processes.

Travel to hydroelectric generating stations throughout British Columbia as required.

Qualifications Bachelor''s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

Registered Professional Engineer (P.

Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC), or eligible for immediate registration.

Minimum 8 years of relevant engineering experience.

Experience designing fire protection systems within industrial, utility, power generation, mining, oil and gas, or other heavy industrial environments.

Strong knowledge of fire protection engineering principles, applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices.

Experience delivering engineering projects from conceptual design through construction, commissioning, and final turnover.

Strong communication, technical writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications Experience with hydroelectric generation facilities or other utility infrastructure.

Knowledge of NFPA standards including NFPA 13, 15, 20, 22, 25, 72, and NFPA 850.

Familiarity with ASME B31.1 Power Piping and applicable British Columbia building, fire, and electrical codes.

Experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Navisworks, Autodesk ReCap, AutoSPRINK, HydraCAD, ELITE, HASS, or similar engineering software.

Experience with 3D plant modelling, sprinkler hydraulic calculations, fire alarm design, condition assessments, asset management, and multidisciplinary project delivery.

Experience acting as Engineer of Record or Professional of Record.
