Job Description Vortex Strategy & Recruitment is actively seeking for an Associate Director and Lawyer-Revisor for its client, a leading international law firm located in downtown Montreal.
The Linguistic Services team translates and revises a wide range of documents for the firm''s clients as well as its business services teams.
The Lawyer-Revisor works closely with the firm''s lawyers and clients and, to a lesser extent, with members of the firm''s business services teams.
The Associate Director and Lawyer-Revisor is responsible for reviewing the legal aspects of a broad range of French and English translations across various areas of law.
This individual also reviews internal communications and documents produced by the firm''s business services teams, as required.
This is a senior-level position, as the successful candidate is also responsible for the department''s computer-assisted translation (CAT) software and tools, as well as managing vendor relationships related to these technologies.
In addition, this individual supervises members of the team.
This role requires a thorough understanding of the mission of the Linguistic Services department within the firm, strong business acumen, proven leadership abilities, and a solid understanding of technological advancements in the translation industry.
Your Role and Responsibilities Review, from a legal standpoint, French and English translations produced by the team for the firm''s clients, providing translation opinions in legal and financial matters when required, while meeting often extremely tight deadlines.
Review French and English translations produced by the firm''s business services teams, including Clients & Markets, People & Development, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI), and Management.
Provide feedback to translators and discuss revisions with them, as required.
Act as the primary resource in the absence of the Director of Linguistic Services for all aspects related to departmental management.
Manage complex client files, including: o Receiving client requests, negotiating and establishing billable fees,
and providing outstanding client service from the initial request through to file completion. o Coordinating translation mandates with translators, revisors, and assistants until the work is delivered to the client. o Liaising with internal and external clients, other stakeholders involved in the mandate, and the firm''s lawyers. o Making decisions regarding workflows, legal terminology, and file budgets. o Acting as the client''s main point of contact throughout the execution of the mandate. o Billing hours in accordance with the client''s approved budget.
Stay informed of new tools and technological advancements in the translation industry, assess related opportunities and costs, and prepare reports for the Director.
Act as the business lead for technology-related projects involving other business services teams and stakeholders.
Lead the implementation and adoption of technological tools within the department.
Coordinate training related to these technological tools.
Serve as the primary contact for vendors of the firm''s translation tools.
Handle requests from both internal and external clients, often involving extremely tight deadlines.
Communicate with internal and external clients regarding translation-related issues and challenges.
Understand the entire translation process from beginning to end to ensure the seamless execution of mandates.
Organize the team''s work efficiently and manage the deadlines assigned to each team member.
Represent the firm professionally in all communications and interactions.
Remain calm under pressure to keep the team engaged and reassured.
Demonstrate strong persuasive skills to help ensure the successful completion of mandates.
Effectively manage change and uncertainty arising from technological innovations.
Champion the successful implementation of new technology-related work methods and processes.
Act as the business lead during project management initiatives involving technology.
Liaise effectively with vendors regarding new technological developments and solutions.
Remain current with new legislation and regulations, particularly in the area of securities law.
Requirements Member of the Qubec Bar for a minimum of 10 years.
Excellent command of both French and English.

Robust interest in translation technologies and innovations within the industry.
Experience as a Lawyer-Revisor or Revisor within a structured law firm environment is considered a strong asset.
Ability to transition efficiently and effectively between administrative responsibilities and revision work.
