Summary: The Compliance & Policy Coordinator is required to facilitate all compliance and policy filings and ensure that they are completed on time.
The analyst supports the legal compliance and policy team in filings before regulators on compliance, ISO tariff, and policy matters.
The Compliance & Policy Coordinator establishes processes, assigns tasks, and oversees work to achieve this objective; conducts front-line research and reviews of issues; and ensures essential tools, software, and processes are in place to meet business needs.
The Compliance & Policy Coordinator must be self-driven, keen to take on responsibility and capable of ensuring that work product is of the highest caliber.
Responsibilities: Lead the preparation, coordination, review, and submission of regulatory and compliance filings to the MSA and AESO, including self-reports, self-certifications, mitigation plans, information requests, regulatory consultations, and other regulatory submissions, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and alignment with regulatory requirements.
Lead the development and drafting of compliance submissions, correspondence, and communications that support regulatory risk management, and position the organization as an industry leader in compliance.
Coordinate Alta
Links participation in AESO and MSA consultations, including supporting the development of regulatory strategy,
drafting submissions in line with approved regulatory strategy, collection and integration of stakeholder input, preparation of consultation materials, and facilitation of submissions and regulatory engagement activities.
Maintain oversight of Alta
Links compliance filing calendar, ensuring all external compliance deadlines are identified, tracked, and completed in a timely manner.
Act as the primary administrative and coordination resource for MSA self-reports, including tracking report status, coordinating information gathering, maintaining supporting documentation, and facilitating communications with internal stakeholders.
Support AESO compliance audits, reliability audits, spot checks, monitoring activities, and self-certifications by coordinating responses, maintaining evidence repositories, tracking requests, and ensuring submission requirements are met.
Develop, maintain and enhance processes, filing templates, tracking tools, databases, and reporting to support regulatory and compliance activities and facilitate accurate, consistent, and efficient submissions.
Monitor regulatory filing requirements and procedural changes issued by the AESO, MSA, NERC, and other regulatory authorities, and support the implementation of necessary process updates.
Provide administrative and technical support for compliance management systems, Share
Point sites, databases, and other tools used to manage regulatory filings, compliance evidence, audit records, and consultation submissions.
Support the preparation of executive reporting, management updates, and compliance metrics related to policy and compliance.
Forecast financial risk associated with non-compliance events.
Other responsibilities as needed by internal business partners and as directed by leadership.
Demonstrate key behaviors and meet identified expectations outlined in our four cultural pillars one team, continuous improvement, customer focus and personal accountability.
Requirements Post-secondary degree/diploma in Business, Economics, Finance, legal or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Minimum 8 years of progressive compliance and regulatory experience. 10+ years strongly preferred.
Proven ability/experience in above-noted responsibilities.
Experience preparing for and drafting submissions to regulatory agencies, such as the AUC, AESO and MSA.
Familiarity with the AUC, AESO and AUCs respective roles in the industry.
Knowledge of the Alberta electricity agencies and the agencies'' roles and responsibilities, including ARS and/or NERC, ISO Rules.
Previous experience with the AESOs and MSAs compliance oversight framework or past experience involving NERC compliance in another jurisdiction.
Advanced knowledge of MS Share
Point, MS Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and MS Word is required.
Experience with ASSURX, SAP GRC, or related systems would be an asset.
Experience developing information management systems and document control is an asset.
Collaborative and diplomatic personality; team player is essential.
Ability to effectively engage others.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work under pressure within tight deadlines and with minimal supervision is required.
Proven ability to approach competing priorities systematically and follow up on a timely basis is required.
Effective writing and proofreading skills.
Proven ability to complete tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
Effective communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills to interface with team members, stakeholders and customers to promote positive outcomes.
Proven track record of good performance and attendance.
