The Role
Reporting to the Operations Manager for Eastern Canada, this position will be a leadership role based in Atlantic Canada and requires the successful candidate to visit client sites from time‑to‑time and interact with clients. Responsibilities
- Leadership role in managing a group of technical professionals including engineers and technologists.
- Work in a multi‑disciplinary environment and cooperate with other team members.
- Provide technical guidance to the team and mentorship to more junior engineers.
- Prepare proposals, including schedules and manpower estimates.
- Manage projects from inception to completion, coordinating both internal and external project stakeholders and ensuring important, relevant information is communicated regularly.
- Ensure adherence to Wood’s and client project management, change management, quality control, and document management procedures and processes.
- Monitor and control the change management process.
- Prepare conceptual and detailed design calculations and engineering reports, specifications, design criteria and construction scope of work documents.
- Carry out feasibility studies and prepare reports.
- Meet cost and schedule requirements in production of deliverables.
- Coordinate own work and that of other group members.
- Develop solutions to non‑recurring problems by appraising, interpreting, and evaluating various precedents and data.
- Exercise professional judgement in selecting and interpreting information and modifying standard methods and procedures.
- Site visits for inspections as needed to remote sites.
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, subcontractors and clients.
Qualifications
- Currently authorized to lawfully work in Canada without sponsorship from Wood.
- University degree in Civil / Structural Engineering.
- Minimum 20 years’ experience in various aspects of dams, hydraulic structures and other hydropower assets.
- Experience in a leadership role.
- Ability to communicate at all levels of both internal and client organization.
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Good verbal and written communication.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.
- Experience working on a multidisciplinary team consisting of dam safety, civil / structural, geotechnical, hydrotechnical and hydromechanical engineers.
- Led or participated in Dam Safety Reviews.
- Knowledgeable of the Canadian Dam Association’s (CDA) Dam Safety Guidelines and experience in carrying out Dam Safety Reviews (DSRs), including site inspection, condition assessment and design adequacy assessment.
- Experience in undertaking risk assessments and Potential Failure Modes Analysis (PFMA) related to dams.
- Ability to work efficiently and demonstrate effective organization skills to handle multiple projects and tasks.
- Ability to work independently.
- Working level of competence in own discipline in the execution of tasks.
- Working level of knowledge of industry and technology development within discipline area.
- Ability to create functional and cost‑effective designs and processes that meet complex specification requirements with little support.
- Professional Engineer licensed in Atlantic Canada or able to obtain license in other provinces.
- High level of awareness and commitment to safety in all aspects of daily work.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Highly motivated and demonstrates personal initiative.
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills are mandatory.
