BEHAVIOURAL SUPPORT WORKER
Candidates are invited to apply for the following position to work at the Alzheimer Society of Dufferin County, located in Orangeville Ontario. This is a community position that requires driving, access to a vehicle on a daily basis and providing support within client’s homes and other community settings like retirement homes, adult day programs, etc.
- Reporting to the Executive Director, and in collaboration with the Psychogeriatric Resource Consultant and First Link Team, the Behavioural Support Worker will provide behavioural support and interventions within the community of Dufferin County.
- The Behavioural Support Worker will assist in enhancing the quality of life for the person with responsive behaviours while understanding the needs of the primary caregiver to promote person centered care.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops behavioural management interventions for our clients.
- Facilitates the implementation of behavioural strategies for caregiver(s).
- Observes and reports changes in clients’ physical, mental and/or emotional condition promptly.
- Works within and collaborates with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure appropriate delivery of care
- Working with community partners to support smooth client transitions across the continuum of care
- Protects the rights of our clients in the matter of confidentiality,
privacy, beliefs and values.
- Reports all client incidents, accidents and complaints.
- Participates in BSO meetings and community meetings
- Assumes responsibility for professional development. Required to attend ongoing training to support and enhance skills in managing responsive behaviours (GPA, Montessori, U-First).
- Demonstrates an understanding of the Behavioural Supports Ontario philosophy.
- Completes all tasks, duties and documentation with efficiency and professionalism.
- Works within Health and Safety guidelines while in the community, using PPE when required.
- Tends to immediate client needs while in the home when necessary.
- Other duties and tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Relevant College diploma, or University degree, with 3 to 4 years related experience.
- GPA, U-First, Montessori, PIECES certified an asset.
- Understands and upholds all rules and regulations under applicable legislation (including but not limited to the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, Ontario Labour Relations Act, the Ontario Health and Safety Act).
- G class licensed driver with access to own vehicle as job requires travel within community.
- Robust interpersonal and communication skills.
