Locations
Victoria, BC, Canada Responsibilities The Building Envelope Design Engineer / Design Technologist works as an active team member from assessment and conceptual stages through to project completion, delivering practical, creative solutions in building science and envelope design.Responsibilities include: Collaborate with clients (architects/developers) on new builds from schematic design through construction and project close-out. Prepare schematic design and design development reports; review drawings and specifications related to building envelope design. Perform thermal bridging calculations and assist with thermal bridge–free design and analysis.
Coordinate with the Building Energy Modelling team on enclosure implications. Assess constructability and impact on project costs; participate in field reviews during construction.
Lead commissioning activities including mid-construction air leakage testing, whole-building airtightness testing, and window water penetration testing.
Over time, develop capability to lead projects within the design team as a project lead.
Existing
Building / Rehabilitation Work with a Project Engineer to move projects from design development to construction and close-out. Conduct preliminary site investigations and evaluations of existing buildings; prepare evaluation reports and budgets. Develop drawings and specifications for rehabilitation projects; analyze repair options.
Understand designer influence on constructability and costs; review bids from restoration contractors. Provide contract administration and construction field review; coordinate with other disciplines. Develop understanding of design disciplines and construction trades; participate in negotiations as needed.
Lead design discussions and client liaison; collaborate with contractors to address unforeseen construction conditions.
Qualifications &
Experience Education Degree in Civil Engineering; preference for candidates with Building Science coursework.
Registration status: Engineer-In-Training (E.I.T) with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia,
or eligible for registration. Preference for Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or Applied Science Technologist (AScT) or eligibility to register.
Experience Minimum 2 years of experience in building science or engineering.
Experience in a consulting firm is an asset;
experience in the construction industry is an asset.
Skills Valid driver's license is preferred. Strong communication skills (written and verbal); client service orientation. Interpersonal skills, problem solving, and solution-focused mindset. Leadership ability and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.
