Job Overview
Rental Brothers is looking for a skilled and versatile Carpentry, Woodworking & Repair Technician to join our team.
The position will begin with a unique restoration project involving a historic wooden grain elevator near Herronton, Alberta. The successful candidate will complete exterior carpentry, wood restoration, finishing, repairs, and general property improvements.
Additional work may include repairing rental equipment, improving our Calgary warehouse, constructing custom rental products, building storage systems, and completing general woodworking and maintenance projects.
This position is suited to someone who enjoys working independently, solving practical problems, restoring older structures, and seeing the visible results of their work.
Primary Responsibilities
- Repair and restore wooden siding, doors, windows, trim, railings, stairs, and other building components
- Remove and replace damaged or deteriorated wood
- Sand, scrape, prepare, stain, seal, paint, and refinish wood surfaces
- Complete general carpentry and woodworking projects
- Construct or repair shelving, carts, crates, storage systems, décor, bars, and rental equipment
- Assist with exterior improvements around the grain elevator property
- Perform minor roofing, siding, hardware, and building repairs where qualified
- Identify structural or safety concerns and communicate them to management
- Measure materials and prepare material and tool lists
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Safely use ladders, scaffolding, power tools, and woodworking equipment
- Complete work efficiently while maintaining a high standard of quality
Qualifications
- Practical carpentry, woodworking, renovation, construction,
or building-maintenance experience
- Experience repairing, refinishing, or restoring wood
- Comfortable using common hand tools and power tools
- Able to accurately measure, cut, fit, fasten, and finish materials
- Strong attention to detail
- Able to work independently and manage daily tasks
- Good judgment and practical problem-solving abilities
- Physically capable of lifting materials and completing hands-on work
- Comfortable working outdoors and at heights
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation
- Able to travel between Calgary and the Herronton area as required
Preferred Experience The following experience is considered an asset but is not required:
- Heritage-building restoration
- Finish carpentry
- Exterior siding repair
- Window and door restoration
- Painting, staining, and wood finishing
- Furniture building or repair
- Roofing or exterior construction
- Welding, metal fabrication, or mechanical repair
- Warehouse or commercial property maintenance
Applicants do not need previous grain elevator restoration experience. We are primarily looking for someone with strong general carpentry, woodworking, repair, and finishing skills. Work Workplace The initial project will primarily take place at a historic grain elevator near Herronton, Alberta,
approximately 45 minutes southeast of Calgary.
The work may involve
- Outdoor work in changing weather conditions
- Working from ladders, scaffolding, or elevated areas
- Dust, paint, stain, and construction materials
- Lifting and moving tools and building materials
- Travelling between the project site and the Rental Brothers warehouse in Calgary
Schedule
- Full-time hours
- Approximately 40 hours per week
- Primarily weekday daytime work
- Some schedule flexibility may be required depending on weather and project needs
- Expected contract duration of approximately four months
- Potential for ongoing work based on performance and company needs
Compensation
- $30–$35 per hour, depending on experience
- Consistent full-time hours during the contract
