The Alliance Verdi Civil Inc is currently seeking a Health & Safety Co-ordinator. This is an entry-level position for those seeking a career in Health & Safety. The candidate will be stationed at office Bolton and also will travel to different project sites within the GTA.
Knowledge:
- Demonstrable experience of working in Health & Safety; knowledge of the OccupationalHealth & Safety Act ("Green Book") and its regulations
- Occupational Health and Safety Degree, Diploma or Certificate is an asset
- NCSO and/or CRSP are an asset
- COR Certification (IHSA) knowledge and experience is an asset
- ISO 45001 knowledge and experience is an asset
- Health and Safety experience in Construction Industry preferred
- Knowledge of iOS and Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and confidentiality concerning client files

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct orientation meetings with new workers, subcontractors and current employees to review safety programs and safe operating procedures to ensure the contractual and legislated requirements have been considered for all phases of work
- Review project related safety documentation and certifications. Maintain files for Programs, Registration, Training and other important records
- Conduct weekly tool box talks
- Take a leadership role in health and safety by participating in the Join Health and Safety Committees
- Perform regular observations of all work areas/activities to review physical conditions and behavioural conformance. These observations may be performed in conjunction with the JHSC representatives,
as required
- Provide site specific observation reports and follow-up on corrective measures
- Provide on-going assessment of safety hazards, with recommendations for corrections
- Review corrective actions for violations with superintendent in accordance with company policies
- Incident investigation and Ministry of Labour Support (Perform incident/accident investigations, as required and provide liaison with governing authorities (MOL, WSIB, Police, etc.)
- Provide leadership in the investigation of serious incidents to determine causes and in developing recommendations
- Enforce personal protective equipment regulations
- Conduct and coordinate training for all staff relevant to the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Maintain and update safety board
- Fire extinguisher monthly inspections performed and recorded
- Prepare Safe Work/Safe Operating procedures
- Assist in Ministry of Labour situations
- Provide HSE leadership, guidance, and support to assigned workplace(s)
- Assist and support their Provincial HSE Manager in the development and implementation of corporate policies and procedures, in accordance with GC / Owners regulatory requirements
- Conduct inspections of job sites, facilities, and equipment for compliance with general and specific safety standards
- Follow-up on any non-compliance issues and take appropriate action to remedy
- Conduct incident investigations, audits of subcontractor safety management systems, loss control programs, and non-compliance issues, prepare reports and recommend changes as necessary
- Support the maintenance of the Certificate of Recognition Program (COR)/ ISO 45001
- Share feedback, observations and reporting details related to regional HSE achievements and opportunities with regional managers and people leaders
- Oversee and participate in incident investigation and reviews
- Support modified duty programs
- Ensure project safety plans are in place and aligned with local regulatory, regional,divisional and corporate requirements
- Participate in regional planning
- Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and practices regarding health, safety and workplace
- Facilitate HSE training programs

Education & Skill Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or college diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or Environmental Studies is preferred
- NCSO - National Construction Safety Officer is preferred
- Certified Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) is an asset
- COR (IHSA) Internal Auditor Certificate is preferred
- Trained and able to train others in Working at Heights, First-Aid/CPR, Confined Space, Asbestos Awareness and Elevated Work Platform is an asset
- Working knowledge of provincial, and municipal HSE regulations and programs
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite applications
- Availability to travel if required
