Key Responsibilities
- Set up, program, operate, and adjust CNC milling and turning machines.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts, and technical specifications.
- Program and operate CNC machines using Heidenhain Conversational controls.
- Review bills of materials (BOMs) and production routers to identify opportunities for improving material and labor efficiency.
- Collaborate with production and engineering teams to optimize machining processes and productivity.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives, documenting results and reporting progress to management.
- Train machine operators and helpers on machine setup, adjustments, and best practices.
- Verify dimensions and tolerances using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
- Complete inspection reports and maintain accurate quality documentation.
- Set up and adjust production machinery, tooling, and fixtures.
- Assemble and fit machine components to close tolerances.
- Calculate dimensions, tolerances, and layouts for workpieces.
- Report deviations from specifications and ensure all components meet quality requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Qualifications & Skills
- Extensive experience programming and operating CNC milling and turning machines.
- Strong proficiency with Heidenhain Conversational controls.
- Excellent blueprint reading and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T;) interpretation skills.
- Thorough knowledge of tooling, machining processes, and production workflows.
- Experience producing custom, high-tolerance precision components.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Skilled Trades Certificate, AEC, DEP, or equivalent technical certification required.
- Minimum 10 years of CNC machining experience.
- Minimum 10 years of programming experience using Heidenhain Conversational controls.
- Extensive experience operating CNC horizontal and vertical milling machines and CNC turning machines.
Working Conditions
- Manufacturing/shop environment with exposure to machinery, noise, sparks, and grinding debris.
- Frequent standing, bending, lifting, kneeling, and other physical activities.
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to meet production schedules and tight deadlines.
