McInnes Cooper seeks an experienced and empathetic Estates & Trusts Paralegal to join our team in our Charlottetown office in a full-time permanent position. This role supports a busy and well-established Estates and Trusts practice and plays a key role in delivering high-quality legal services to clients during important and often sensitive life moments.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the following skill set:

- Legal Assistant or Paralegal diploma; however, we recognize that historical and systemic barriers have shaped and limited access to traditional education, training, and employment pathways. Therefore, we welcome applicants with a combination of skills, knowledge, and lived experience.
- A minimum of three (3) years' experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal, ideally in Estate Administration and estate planning drafting with the ability to manage files independently.
- Working knowledge of probate processes and court filings
- Working knowledge of estate planning drafting
- Exceptional technology skills, with proficiency in all aspects of Microsoft Office and a genuine interest in keeping up to date with the newest technology.
- Excel in a demanding, fast-paced team environment, be highly detail-oriented, and flexible to changing priorities.
- Exceptional communication skills, a special focus on client service,



and the highest degree of professionalism.
- A positive attitude with the confidence to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.

Responsibilities

As an Estates & Trusts Paralegal, you will be responsible for:

- Preparing and filing Prince Edward Island Supreme Court - Estates Section applications
- Assisting executors with estate assets such as transfer of securities, real estate and other assets
- Supporting estate and trust administration matters including estate accounting procedures relating to estate administration
- Drafting regional estate planning and trust documentation using existing document automation software and precedents
- Managing original estate planning documents and inventories, reporting, and document retrieval requests
- Taking ownership of a high volume of estate and trust files, ensuring deadlines and court requirements are met
- Maintaining accurate files, tracking systems, correspondence, and time entries
- Communicating professionally and empathetically with clients and external stakeholders
- Liaising with courts, financial institutions, advisors, and other third parties.
- Maintaining precedents, monitoring legislative changes,



and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
