Salary The salary range for this position is CAD $42.56 - $52.95 / hour.

Job Summary We are thrilled to announce a Casual Occupation Therapist position available based in Abbotsford, BC. A successful candidate will be added to the casual pool for the regional Rehabilitation & Recovery team, providing OT services at community mental health & substance use programs and tertiary facilities throughout Fraser Health. If you are looking for steady or intermittent work, this role can accommodate partial coverage or curated shift offers as long as you work sufficient shifts over time.

Most shift offers can be negotiated. Work with adult clients individually and in groups referred by their Most Responsible Clinician for support with diverse occupations such as volunteering, education, social activities, community navigation, daily routines, or dating. You may also assess client IADL support needs and make recommendations to enhance supports.

Clients may have any mental health and/or substance use diagnosis. In tertiary MHSU practice, you would work with residents of a bed-based program to meet their occupational needs, building relationships with residents throughout their stay. Assist residents to engage in meaningful activity, build independent living skills, and determine appropriate services and discharge destinations.

What We're Looking For - Current full registration with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC.

- Two (2) years recent related experience working in a community mental health and/or substance use setting.

Responsibilities 1. Screens and assesses client functional capacity, occupational performance, and environmental supports to make appropriate referrals.

- Reviews relevant clinical information and discusses the referral with the team, including the client, their most responsible clinician, and agencies involved.
- Analyses and reviews assessment results with the client to determine a course of action, providing verbal and written assessment reports.




- Assists client and agency to determine the best method of achieving desired results; supports client orientation to the service.
- Provides individual and group treatment with selected clients, collaborating with inter-professional team members to determine recovery priorities and goals.
- Identifies appropriate frame of reference for intervention, reviews assessment results, develops treatment goals, and initiates required funding requests.
- Assists in the provision of education regarding rehabilitation and recovery to mental health & substance use program staff.
- Applies psychosocial rehabilitation approach with mental health & substance use program clients/consumers to facilitate effective entry and participation in programs.
- Supports overall service delivery of the program through joint planning, responding to team priorities, and providing reports regarding progress toward program goals.
- Reviews programs, identifies strengths, recommends improvements, and coordinates development of rehabilitation programs in consultation with clients, team members, and other professionals.
- Represents program or service area on committees on the development of rehabilitation policy, program planning, and standards.
- Coordinates rehabilitation resources, including peer support and other programs.
- In consultation with the Coordinator and Manager, reviews services of contracted rehabilitation programs, strengthening partnerships and recommending corrective action.
- Collaborates with community agencies to provide specialized information regarding roles and services.
- Acts as a consultant/resource regarding psychosocial rehabilitation to community agencies and services.
- Supervises preceptors and occupational therapy students as required.




- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Education and Experience - Current full registration with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC.

- Two (2) years recent related experience working in a community mental health and/or substance use setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Valid B.C. Class V Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle for business purposes.

Skills and Abilities - Working knowledge of psychiatric rehabilitation, psychosocial approaches, and recovery practices.

- Demonstrated knowledge of mental illness and substance use and appropriate rehabilitation treatments.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation.
- Ability to use activity analysis to assess occupational performance and modify activities, environment, or supports.
- Ability to utilize outcome measurement tools.
- Demonstrated leadership and presentation skills.
- Ability to operate related equipment such as computers and application software for virtual delivery of care.
- Ability to collaborate and work effectively in a community team setting, independently and with others.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, and health care team members.
- Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work.
- Ability to exercise sound clinical reasoning and problem‑solving.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
