As a faith- and values-based organization, we hire and serve people of all backgrounds and walks of life - there is a place for everyone to belong here.Mission StatementThe Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world.:Provides general reception service to the NWT Resource Centre by:Answering the telephone and referring calls to the appropriate departmentsDelivering messages as requiredReceiving deliveries and donations, sorting, light lifting (20 pounds) and storing food donationsReceiving general public walk-ins and referring them to the appropriate departmentEnsuring the cleanliness and tidiness of the reception areas.Community Services SupportDistributing food hampers and clothing vouchers & the required paperwork/data entryArrange for appropriate discarding of non- monetary donations that are unusable.Receive, sort and organize non-monetary donations or purchased products following direction from caseworker or supervisor.Responsible for stocking and distributing of toiletries to clientsResponsible for letting clients in to utilize the laundry and shower facilities.Maintain safety of the clients and the facilityLight lifting and moving boxes.Work cooperatively with volunteersProvide crisis intervention as requiredAssist with seasonal programs including but not limited to Christmas, Kettles and Food drivesPrepare food hampers for clientsMaintain food bank cleanliness, tidiness, and organization.Refer clients to other community resources where appropriateOther duties as assigned by Community Services Supervisor or designateAdministrative support:Recording statistics for Community Services Department and CorpsFiling for Community Services DepartmentReceipt, recording and disbursement of mail.Accept walk-in monetary donations and provide temporary receipts to donorsSupport leadership staff with correspondence, filing and scanning.Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or Corps OfficerContactsThere is constant contact with the public. The incumbent is the public’s first contact with The Salvation Army NWT Resource Centre.

As well, there is steady interaction with the rest of the staff.Working Conditions:The work environment entails frequent association with individuals who are under the influence of alcohol or other drugs as well as other mental health issues, and the associated behaviours of such states.There can be stress due to potential chaotic encounters.The incumbent will have to address uncooperative individuals.There will be general housekeeping tasks required in order to maintain workspace.Lifting/moving of up to 40 pounds is required.Equipment:MS Office (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook)HIFIS and Link2FeedPrinters (various)TelephonePhotocopierRadios i.e. walkie- talkieReport writing, e-mail, general correspondenceContact with public, reporting to supervisorsData collectionMaking extra formsEducation,



Qualifications and Certifications:Social Service ExperiencePossess solid computer skillsAbility to learn Salvation Army specific software including Link2FeedHave current First Aid/CPR certificationClear Criminal Record Check requiredCompletion of high school plus additional courses in facilities management or equivalentExperience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements: Previous experience in reception or general administrative work experienceSkills and Capabilities:Willingness to adhere to the Mission Statement and values of The Salvation ArmyAwareness of issues involved in aboriginal and cross-cultural ministryComputers skills are essential – MS Office and ability to learn other software applicationsEffective communication in English both written and oralEffective time management and organizational skillsAbility to work independently, unsupervised and within a team environmentExceptional Customer Service skillsDe-escalation techniques acquired through verbal judo or NVCI training.Self-directed and motivatedAbility to work under stressful circumstancesAbility to multitask and effectively manage and respond to multiple demandsCompensation:The target hiring range for this position is $26.87 to $27.81 with a maximum of $28.74.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.The Salvation Army will provide reasonable accommodation upon request.
