Job Summary

Relief Full Time Clinical Educator Occupational Therapist needed for the Rehabilitation team at Surrey Memorial Hospital, Surrey, B.C. This position is open until approximately March 2027 or until the incumbent's return.

Detailed Overview

In accordance with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC standards of practice, Fraser Health’s vision, mission and values, occupational therapy acute care standards, and collaborative partnership with the Clinical Practice Leader and the interprofessional care team, the Clinical Educator provides education, orientation and training to Occupational Therapy staff and assistants in various acute care units such as acute care, ICUs, and neurological rehabilitation. The role includes clinical caseload with assessment, intervention, and patient consultation.

Responsibilities

- Determine education priorities meeting the needs of Occupational Therapists and Rehabilitation Assistants; complete learning needs assessments.
- Develop, plan, and revise educational and orientation activities and programs based on latest research and evidence-based practice.
- Create supportive interprofessional learning environments and build strong professional relationships with learners.
- Deliver learner-centered education through teaching, role modeling, demonstrating, mentoring, coaching, group facilitation, lectures, and formal presentations.




- Serve as a clinical resource for complex or challenging clients or situations and support complex referrals/discharges.
- Plan and schedule educational activities; maintain attendance tracking system and reporting statistics.
- Evaluate education effectiveness by measuring outcomes and assessing learning that demonstrates best practices.
- Participate in quality improvement, safety, risk management, and service goal activities such as evaluating changes in practice, researching new equipment, and offering recommendations.
- Participate in approved occupational therapy and interprofessional research, special projects, and committees.
- Maintain a patient caseload: assess, plan, implement, and evaluate treatment; document data and collaborate with patients and families on care plans.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience

Current full registration with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC; three (3) years of recent related occupational therapy experience in acute care, intensive care, and neurological rehabilitation, including at least one (1) year in a teaching/leadership role, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities

- Clinical proficiency in occupational therapy standards and practice within a patient and family-centered model.




- Knowledge of occupational therapy standardized tests, measures, equipment, and techniques.
- Knowledge of College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia practice guidelines.
- Ability to provide direction and support for complex discharge planning and patient populations.
- Advanced knowledge in neurology.
- Ability to teach, mentor, and coach in individual and group settings.
- Ability to coordinate, develop, and deliver education programs that promote best practice.
- Ability to implement education based on changing practices, such as service delivery model changes.
- Ability to foster effective teaching and learning relationships.
- Ability to collaborate with stakeholders to prepare training and programs.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize, problem-solve, and manage conflicts.
- Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work in a continuously changing environment.Ability to carry a clinical caseload and provide respectful consultation to patients and staff.
- Ability to operate related equipment and software applications.
- Physical ability to perform duties of the position.
