Siloam Mission is a Christian-based non-profit service organization for Manitobans who have experienced homelessness and who struggle with mental health issues, physical and cognitive disabilities, addictions, or trauma. Founded in 1987, the mission provides emergency shelter, meals and clothing, supportive housing, and a variety of healing, support, and recovery services to help people transform their own lives and reach their full potential.

JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Philanthropy, Stewardship & Engagement is responsible for ensuring the financial health and sustainability of Siloam Mission. This role develops and executes fundraising, communications, and community engagement strategies that strengthen relationships, increase public awareness, and generate sustainable revenue through financial gifts, cause-related marketing, volunteering, gifts-in-kinds, and endorsements to advance the organization's mission. The Director provides strategic, relationship-driven leadership for Siloam Mission’s philanthropy, communications, and volunteer services functions.
This role is responsible for achieving Siloam Mission’s fundraising goals by designing, leading and executing the fundraising strategy. The Director advises on setting ambitious fundraising goals to ensure long-term financial sustainability, fosters a culture of philanthropy, engages stakeholders in ongoing service and funding activities, and ensures departmental operations align with Siloam Mission’s priorities, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements. This includes leveraging key relationships and contacts within the community to achieve Siloam Mission’s revenue goals.
Director of Philanthropy, Stewardship & Engagement leads a multidisciplinary team, cultivates key relationships with donors and community partners, and oversees fundraising, stewardship, communications, volunteer engagement, and CRM best practices.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership & Organizational Planning
- Work collaboratively with the senior leadership team to develop and execute departmental strategy aligned with organizational goals and mission, vision and values.
- Make decisions that are financially responsible, accountable, justifiable, defensible and aligned with Siloam Mission’s policies and procedures.
- Advise the CEO concerning all aspects of assigned function, indicating departmental priorities, opportunities, fundraising alternatives and solutions that support Siloam strategic objectives.
- Develop, implement, and regularly review departmental policies, procedures, and systems to ensure operational effectiveness, accuracy, efficiency, service delivery, alignment and compliance with industry-wide best practice.
Fundraising & Revenue Development
- Lead and manage Siloam Mission’s overall development efforts to achieve annual budget goals, capital needs, and long-term financial sustainability.
- Develop and implement a cohesive strategic fundraising plan to raise funds through individual giving, major/planned giving, grants, corporate giving, employee giving and third-party fundraising events.
- Maintain a portfolio of twenty major gift prospects.
- Support the CEO with their list of five prospects with the potential to make a transformational gift.
- Lead strategy development for capital campaigns and major fundraising initiatives.
- Oversee organization and development of third-party fundraising events.
- Oversee research of grants and foundation funding opportunities.
- Develop and track proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising.
Donor Stewardship
- Develop a comprehensive Donor Stewardship, Recognition and Progression Plan (Donor Journey) that provides individualized engagement opportunities to support donor acquisition, retention, recognition, and long-term support and engagement.
- Analyze and respond to trends in donor behaviour through database tracking and reporting to identify opportunities for growth and improved stewardship.
- Ensure adherence to the Association of Fund-Raising Professionals (AFP) Code of Ethics and Donor Bill of Rights
- Ensure charitable receipting and data management adheres to CRA requirements.
Volunteer Services
- Oversee a robust volunteer program from awareness, recruitment, onboarding, engagement, management, recognition, and retention.
- Model and promote a culture that recognizes the critical and unique contribution of our volunteer partners to the success of Siloam Mission.
Communication and Public Relations
- Oversee the communications portfolio, including advertising, media partnership, and communications vendor agreements.
- Develop and implement comprehensive communications, community engagement, public awareness and relations, and branding strategies that support organizational and fundraising objectives.
- Ensure consistent branding and organizational messaging across all communication channels.
Budget, Financial Management & Reporting
- Plan, manage, and monitor departmental resources effectively.
- Plan, manage, and review operating budget and reports, including the review of monthly department financial reports, to track goal achievements and overall effectiveness.
- Manage all information relating to donors and prospects in a manner that emphasizes the highest standards of accuracy, timeliness, thoroughness, and confidentiality.
- Prepare reports, forecasts, and strategic updates for the CEO and other stakeholders to support organizational planning and decision-making.
Staff Management and Development
- In collaboration with HR, recruit and retain a high-performing team across philanthropy, stewardship, communications, and volunteer services.
- Provide ongoing oversight, coaching, mentorship, employee recognition, and professional development opportunities.
- Establish clear expectations and provide effective performance feedback and management with the assistance of HR as needed.
- Delegate responsibilities appropriately, and promote accountability and empowerment for team to fulfil their roles.
- Support leaders within the department to ensure they are feeling respected, heard, supported and that they are receiving adequate and meaningful feedback.
- Foster a spirit of teamwork and unity across departmental functions to maximize effectiveness and achieve shared fundraising and engagement success and goals.
- Build and maintain an inclusive, respectful, and engaged workplace culture aligned with Siloam Mission’s mission, vision, and values.
- Appropriately communicate organization information through regular departmental meetings, one-on-one discussions, emails, and timely information sharing.
Safety and Health
- Support and execute Health & Safety plans in the workplace according to legislated guidelines.
- Support and enforce policies to establish a culture of Health & Safety.
- Investigate accidents or incidents to determine causes and recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures.
- Ensures that staff report accidents or incidents to Workers Compensation Board and assist in compensation claims, if needed.
General
- Other tasks and responsibilities related to the position as assigned by the CEO.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Post-secondary diploma/degree in Business Administration, Fundraising, Communications, Marketing, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, or related field; a combination of related education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in non-profit sector.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior leadership role.
- Experience in donor management software, tracking and reporting practices.
- Demonstrated success developing and executing fundraising strategies that achieve or exceed revenue goals.
- Experience managing a diverse fundraising portfolio, including major gifts, mail campaigns, corporate partnerships, grants, etc.
- Knowledge of legacy and monthly donor programs preferred.
- Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation preferred.
- Must have a valid Class 5F driver’s license, an acceptable driver abstract, and a vehicle in good condition for travel as needed.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/BEHAVIORS
- Extensive knowledge of fundraising principles,
donor stewardship, relationship management, and philanthropic giving strategies, including major, annual, planned, corporate, and foundation giving.
- Strong understanding of volunteer engagement, recognition, and retention strategies, and their role in advancing organizational mission and community relationships.
- Working knowledge of strategic communications, branding, public relations, and engagement principles.
- Strong financial and business acumen with the ability to develop budgets, monitor and forecast financial performance, and steward organizational resources.
- Demonstrated success developing and leading cutting-edge fundraising strategies that drive revenue growth across annual, mid-level, and major gift fundraising.
- Strategic and analytical thinker with the ability to interpret data, identify opportunities, and make sound informed decisions.
- Exceptional relationship-building, stewardship, solicitation and negotiation skills.
- Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop staff, foster accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Experience using donor management systems, analytics, and reporting tools to support strategic decision making.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver compelling proposals, presentations, and communications.
- Ability to represent Siloam Mission professionally and credibly with diverse audiences, including the media, donors, partners, fundraising events, and senior leadership.
- Knowledge of charitable giving legislation, CRA charitable receipting, and applicable tax regulations.
- Strong organizational, project management, and computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Hours of work: Monday-Friday, 8:00 – 4:30 pm with occasional evenings and weekends.
- Office environment.
- Some off-site travel required.
- Hazardous conditions could potentially include unpredictable or risky behaviours from community members.
WORKPLACE HEALTH & SAFETY
- The incumbent contributes to making the organization safe for community and staff and recognizes the importance of reporting unsafe situations and participating in follow up reviews as a learning opportunity.
- Provides a safe environment by ensuring adherences to Workplace Safety and Health Regulations and Policies, Infection Control Guidelines, WHMIS and Safe Work Procedures.
- Immediately investigates and recommends corrective action on any unsafe acts, work conditions, incidents, near misses, injuries or illnesses.
- Demonstrates understanding of role and responsibilities in fire prevention and disaster preparedness and participates in safety and health training programs including the facility’s Fire, Disaster and Evacuation Plan.
- If applicable the use of proper PPE and respiratory equipment is provided by the manager of the department and must be worn as suggested.

Salary: $93,311 - $126,244
