Qualifications
MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- Minimum Masters Level, preferred PhD in an applicable area.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 6 years demonstrated experience in community development/engagement initiatives and activities.
- Knowledge and experience of the inner city community and Indigenous organizations.
- An increased level of awareness and demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining urban/community/university partnerships.
- Research expertise in community development and health equity/participatory research/social justice.
- Prior experience and success in writing grant proposals.
- Facilitation and training experience is an asset.
- Anti-Racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety training required.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of Education and Experience will be considered

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.

- Demonstrated knowledge of and relationships with the inner city is required.

- Must understand the history, demographics and workplace needs of equity seeking groups such as Women, Indigenous People, Members of Racialized Communities, People with Disabilities, LGBT / Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity minorities, People of various Religions, Faiths and Creeds, Immigrants and Newcomers, Multiple Generations, etc.) is required.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to build respectful relationships, collaborate across diverse teams, and convey complex information clearly and effectively is required.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously is required.
- Demonstrated experience in the recruitment, onboarding, and retention of medical professionals (physicians, physician assistants, and allied health staff) is required.
- Experience developing and presenting presentations to diverse audiences (e.g., medical professionals, leadership, students) is required.
- A satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
Key responsibilities
Program Planning, Development and Evaluation In collaboration with partners from various departments and Colleges within the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, Shared Health and other Service Delivery Organizations, current community partners, currently under-represented and under-served communities that have yet to be supported by RFHS and the Social Justice and Accountability Committee within the incumbent will:
- Oversee community engagement initiatives and advance and expand the work already being done in various colleges and programs, working closely with the RFHS Social Justice and Accountability Committee.
- Responsible for ensuring and enhancing synergistic programming among colleges and better positioning RFHS to effectively respond to curricular, extracurricular and community identified priorities through such things as service learning opportunities.
- Establishing, monitoring and evaluating program effectiveness through the OCE Data collection system project. The director will be responsible for the stewardship, ensuring appropriate dissemination, data sovereignty and confidentiality of the database as well as the continual improvement of the system.
- Ongoing evaluation of existing initiatives to ensure programs are mutually beneficial for RFHS students and community partners.
- Consistent and regular interaction with current and potential community partners to augment existing partner roster and in preparation of expansion of community initiatives, service learning, etc.
- Oversee the Model for Community Engagement for OCE. This model defines scope, delivery schedule, projected costs, resource requirement, issue, risk and assumptions.
- Develop, implement and evaluate service learning curriculum and opportunities across RFHS, working with Coordinators within various colleges and programs, and new and existing community organization partners.
- Working with UofM External Relations ensuring that community engagement activities and programs are widely promoted throughout the University and the broader Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Canadian community.
Leadership and Partner Collaboration
- Work and support RFHS staff and faculty who also undertake community engagement activities; working towards a comprehensive strategy that streamlines communications with community agency partners.
- Oversee engagement with the community in and around the Bannatyne campus.
- Undertake assigned teaching as it pertains to service learning, community engagement and from time to time, facilitating Indigenous Health sessions as required.
- Work with relevant community and UM partners to define mutual goals and implement and evaluate the RFHS’ response through education, research and service (i.e., participatory research and integrated knowledge translation, volunteerism and service learning)
to meet the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences Strategic Plan and the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences Reconciliation Action Plan.
- Through collaboration and partnership with relevant UofM partners (Ongomiizwin Education, ACCESS Programs, Office of Rural and Remote) provide a leadership role in increasing the diversity of future students through active pipeline programs with an emphasis on currently under-represented and under-served communities, and Indigenous peoples; and
- Working with Donor Relations identify and pursue new funding opportunities for the Office of Community Engagement.
Leadership and Partner Collaboration
- Develop, maintain and update annual work plan in consultation with the Alan Klass Memorial Health Equity Director and the Vice-Dean, Indigenous Health, Social Justice and Antiracism RFHS.
- Provide regular and timely reporting on the community engagement model, service learning opportunities, p& integrated knowledge translation activities, student diversity and the business/education/voluntary agency model to relevant partners and at conferences with a focus on community campus partnerships and/or service learning.
- Develop and manage the Office of Community Engagement budget including developing grant proposals for potential external funders to support various initiatives.
- In conjunction with the Director, Alan Klass Memorial Health Equity Program, develop budget, proposals and monitor expenses for this program.
- Develop budget proposals for internal and potential external funders and monitor expenses for the RFHS Office of Community Engagement.
- May be required to provide presentations on activities to relevant and/or potential partners.
Issue and Risk Management
- Continuously review, identify, manage and evaluate potential and realized risks in activities, including appropriate risk response planning.
- Continuously manage, facilitate and evaluate the resolution of potential and realized issues.
Training and Educational Activities
- Develop and deliver educational opportunities and materials to staff and learners.
- May be required to perform related duties not exceeding skills and capabilities as required.
