Electrical Designer
About the Chance
Our client is a leading manufacturer of custom automated machinery and industrial equipment. They are seeking an experienced Electrical Designer to join their Electrical Engineering team. This hands-on role is responsible for electrical design updates, machine testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer support throughout installation and warranty.
The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, production, and field service teams to deliver high-quality automation solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Test automated machinery prior to shipment, including integration testing and final machine validation.
- Commission and install equipment at customer sites, including startup, testing, customer training, and project documentation.
- Modify and maintain electrical drawings using AutoCAD Electrical.
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues during testing, installation, and warranty support.
- Configure and start up AC drives, servo drives, and cut-to-length systems.
- Maintain accurate testing records, engineering documentation, and project files.
- Ensure electrical drawings and documentation are updated throughout the project lifecycle.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and field teams to identify and resolve design or manufacturing issues.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and recommend process enhancements.
- Mentor junior team members and provide technical guidance when required.
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety legislation, company policies, ISO procedures, and lockout/tagout requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while meeting project deadlines.
Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering,
Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline with a focus on industrial controls.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in electrical controls or automation.
- Minimum 3 years of PLC and HMI programming experience across multiple platforms.
- At least 2 years of experience with Rockwell RSLogix 5000/500 and/or Siemens STEP 7.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical for modifying electrical schematics.
- Experience with electrical commissioning, debugging, and troubleshooting automated equipment.
- Strong understanding of PLCs, HMIs, industrial networking, drive systems, and equipment integration.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
- Experience using electrical testing equipment such as multimeters and oscilloscopes.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Work Environment
- Fast-paced manufacturing and engineering environment.
- Combination of office, shop floor, and customer site work.
- Exposure to manufacturing conditions, including noise, dust, and seasonal heat.
- Occasional overtime or weekend work may be required to meet project deadlines.
- Travel to customer sites approximately 30% of the time.
- Must possess a valid driver's licence and be able to travel as required.
- Candidates must provide their own basic tools.
