We are a clinical research enablement company providing laboratory and operational support to clinical research sites and investigators. We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Clinical Research Lab Assistant to support research studies at multiple clinical sites.

This position is ideal for someone with phlebotomy and laboratory assistant experience who enjoys working in a rapid-paced healthcare environment and is committed to providing high-quality support to clinical research teams.

Position Summary

We are seeking a reliable Clinical Research Laboratory Assistant to support ongoing clinical research studies at various sites in the Calgary area.

This is a hands-on, task-focused role primarily responsible for phlebotomy, specimen processing, and shipment preparation. The majority of work involves direct laboratory and specimen handling activities.

In addition, the role may include limited support tasks such as basic data entry and coordination assistance to support study workflows. Study coordination, regulatory documentation, and overall study management remain the responsibility of study coordinators.

This position is best suited to someone who is confident in phlebotomy and specimen handling and prefers structured, protocol-driven laboratory work within a clinical research environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform venipuncture and collect research specimens according to study protocols
- Process, label, and prepare biological specimens for shipment




- Package and ship laboratory specimens according to protocol and regulatory requirements
- Maintain specimen tracking and chain of custody documentation
- Prepare study laboratory kits and supplies as required
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and transport of specimens
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the sample processing area
- Follow all SOPs, study protocols, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines
- Perform limited data entry and basic coordination support tasks as required
- Communicate any specimen or collection issues to study coordinators
- Perform ECG capture when required
- Perform other basic laboratory support tasks as required
- Travel between multiple clinical research sites as required.
- Perform other research-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

- Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) certificate or equivalent phlebotomy experience
- Proven ability to perform venipuncture confidently and accurately
- Experience handling and processing biological specimens
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocol precisely
- Professional communication skills
- Ability to work independently within defined procedures
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence or reliable transportation
- Willingness to work at various clinical research sites within the Calgary area

Preferred





- Experience working in a clinical research environment.
- Experience with specimen shipping and chain of custody documentation
- Familiarity with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines
- Ability to perform and capture 12-lead ECGs
- Experience with basic data entry in clinical or research systems
- Experience working in a fast-paced clinical environment

Working Conditions

- In-person contractor role
- Work performed at assigned clinical research sites in the Calgary area
- Standard working hours are Monday to Thursday, 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM
- Occasional Fridays may be required depending on study needs and scheduling
- Schedule is based on participant visits and study requirements
- Occasional early morning appointments may be required depending on protocol
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs
- Contractors are responsible for their own transportation to assigned site

Compensation

$28.00–$34.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
