We are looking for a Laboratory Technician to join our growing quality control team. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting physical and mechanical testing on a variety of construction materials, including concrete, asphalt, soils. You will ensure all tested materials adhere to industry specifications.
The ideal candidate possesses a strong technical aptitude, works well in a fast-paced laboratory environment, values high-quality data accuracy and has excellent written and verbal communication skills.
What You Will Be Doing:
- Conduct tests on soils, asphalt, and concrete using prescribed methods and standards (e.g., Marshall Stability, Rice Test, Compression Tests).
- Prepare and label test samples according to specifications for each test.
- Handle and condition samples (e.g., oven drying, sieving)
to ensure proper testing procedures.
- Perform basic checks on the functionality of lab equipment to ensure readiness for testing.
- Address minor troubleshooting of equipment as needed.
- Document test results and observations on record sheets or digital systems.
- Input test results into the laboratory database or software for record-keeping.
- Follow safety regulations while conducting tests, handling materials, and managing equipment.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of the workspace to maintain safety standards.
● Perform preventive maintenance checks and clean lab equipment.
● Monitor and check the stock of lab materials and consumables.
● Report any shortages or equipment malfunctions to the Lab Manager.
● Review and verify the accuracy and consistency of test results from the week.
● Discuss any discrepancies or unusual test results with Lab or Quality Manager.
● Perform detailed inspections and calibration of all equipment.
● Assist in compiling monthly test data into reports for internal or external review.
● Ensure all results are documented accurately and comprehensively.
● Assist in the annual safety audit, reviewing lab operations for compliance with updated safety regulations and industry standards.
● Participate in any required training or certifications to maintain safety and operational standards.
● Collaborate along Supervisor and /or Manager an annual performance appraisal.
What We’re Looking For:
● Minimum 1 year experience.
● Minimum Education Level: High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
● Familiarity with ASTM, AASHTO & CSA Standards
● CCIL Certifications are considered an asset.
● Preferred Education Level: Associate degree in a related field such as Civil Engineering, Materials Science, Construction Technology, or Laboratory Technology (preferred).
● Additional Qualifications: Completion of specific coursework or training related to materials testing, such as soils, asphalt, and concrete testing.
· Certification in laboratory safety, quality control, or equipment operation may be beneficial.
· Knowledge of industry testing standards and regulations related to asphalt, concrete, and soils.
· Robust organizational and multitasking skills to manage various lab activities.
· Ability to maintain accurate records and reports and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
· Effective communication skills for collaboration with team members and reporting to supervisors.
· Ability to work overtime during peak periods.

Pay: $28.00-$32.00 per hour
