As a Medical Laboratory Technologist I in Microbiology, you will have the opportunity to perform a variety of routine and specialized microbiological tests and procedures consistent with technical knowledge/skills required for the department to deliver accurate, timely results to clients. This position reports directly to a Clinical Supervisor in the Microbiology Laboratory and works collaboratively with multiple laboratory designations within Microbiology and the Health Care community. The Microbiology department operates 24/7 in order to provide quality service to acute care hospitals, long-term care facilities, community physicians and regional clients from Central Alberta through remote and rural communities in Northern Alberta, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
Microbiology partners with our clients to play a key role in training, antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention and control.
Description: As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program.
- Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications
- Medical Laboratory Technologist (CSMLS) with current CMLTA registration or eligible for registration.
- Must have experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in Microbiology within the last two (2) years or student practical training as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in Microbiology within the last two (2) years.
- Proven interpersonal skills for dealing with people in a team.

- Demonstrates excellent organizational, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.
- Strong team player with ability to perform duties independently and with others.
- Demonstrates valuable communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrates good computer skills.
- Experience with Epic Beaker is an asset.
- Possesses excellent time management skills.
- Exhibits professionalism and accountability.
