Experienced Landscape Architect & Field Quality Coordinator - OALA and BCIN Required

V.I.L. Landscaping is hiring an experienced Landscape Architect to design residential landscapes and help ensure each project is built according to the approved plans and our quality standards.
This is not a desk-only position. You will create detailed landscape and planting plans, visit properties and active job sites, coordinate with project managers, crews, and suppliers, and oversee design quality from concept through completion.
Mandatory Requirements
Applicants must have
- Full membership in good standing with the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects (OALA)
- An active BCIN and relevant qualification categories
- Professional residential landscape design experience
- Experience preparing detailed and permit-related drawings
- A portfolio of completed landscape design work
- A valid Ontario G driver’s licence
Applications without both full OALA membership and an active BCIN will not be considered. What You’ll DoLandscape Architecture and Design
- Develop creative and practical residential landscape concepts
- Produce detailed site plans, planting plans, construction drawings, and client presentations
- Prepare drawings for permits and ensure applicable code requirements are addressed
- Conduct property visits to collect measurements, photographs, elevations, and site information
- Consider grading, drainage, construction access, materials, maintenance, and budget
- Recommend plants appropriate for Southern Ontario
- Revise designs based on client feedback, site conditions, permit requirements, and budget
- Provide project managers and crews with transparent, buildable drawings and layouts
- Support clients throughout the design and approval process
Field Quality Control
- Visit active and recently completed projects
- Compare installed work with approved plans, specifications, and company standards
- Review grading, hardscape details, plant placement, and overall design execution
- Identify design or construction deficiencies before they become larger problems
- Photograph and document required corrections
- Communicate issues clearly to project managers and crews
- Follow up until deficiencies have been corrected
- Assist with final inspections and project closeouts
Crew and Supplier Coordination
- Coordinate design requirements with project managers and installation crews
- Build positive relationships with nurseries and material suppliers
- Confirm plant, material, and product availability
- Help coordinate orders, deliveries, substitutions, and installation schedules
- Explain planting layouts and significant design details to crews
- Visit suppliers and transport samples or small materials when required
- Safely drive a company pickup truck
Required Qualifications
- Full OALA membership with the legal right to use the Landscape Architect title in Ontario
- Active BCIN registration and relevant qualification categories
- Professional experience designing residential landscapes
- Experience preparing permit and construction drawings
- Strong knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and municipal requirements
- Strong understanding of grading, drainage, planting design, and landscape construction
- Knowledge of plants and growing conditions in Southern Ontario
- Proficiency with relevant 2D or 3D design software
- Robust attention to detail and visual judgment
- Ability to identify design and construction deficiencies
- Strong client, crew, and supplier communication skills
- Ability to manage projects and follow tasks through to completion
- Valid Ontario G driver’s licence
- Comfortable driving a pickup truck and visiting active construction sites
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited program
- At least three years of professional residential landscape design experience
- Experience designing pools, cabanas, decks, outdoor structures, grading, and drainage
- Experience working with municipal planning and building departments
- Experience coordinating with engineers, architects, contractors, and suppliers
- Experience inspecting residential landscape construction
- Familiarity with project budgeting and material takeoffs

- Clients clearly understand the proposed design
- Crews receive complete plans and installation details

- Clients, suppliers, and team members receive clear and professional communication
- Projects consistently meet V.I.L. Landscaping’s quality standards
