Contract Lead Physician Posting The Student Wellness Services Clinic in the Health and Wellness Clinic on the Main Campus of the University of Calgary is currently seeking a Part‑time Contract Lead Physician for our student focused, shared care medical clinic.

The Physician

Lead provides clinical guidance to the primary care team, ensuring high‑quality, team‑based, and student‑centered care. This position will be committed to fostering strong collaboration and communication among the physician group and broader care team. The successful Physician Lead will maintain a regular on‑site presence, ideally 2‑3 times per week, allowing for participation in leadership meetings and support through ongoing improvement efforts.

They will contribute to the development and implementation of medical policies and quality improvement initiatives while delivering direct primary care to the university community.

Summary of Key Responsibilities - Providing qualified and respectful physician services through the Clinic to members of the University community, in accordance with all applicable professional standards and on a regularly scheduled basis to be agreed upon by the Parties.

- Completing timely and organized clinical records using the Clinic’s approved CIS.
- Cooperating with the University and other health and wellness professionals practicing in the Clinic to provide an inter‑skilled and collaborative model of patient health service delivery and to reduce duplication of services.
- Participating in professional development initiatives, including meetings, committees, and workshops, as reasonably required by the University.
- Directing the University in relation to its information management services provided to Clinic Custodians and ensuring compliance with the HIA.
- Communicating clinic initiatives to physicians in a timely manner.
- In collaboration with the clinic support team, assist in onboarding process for new physicians.
- Providing consultation on patient concerns,



supporting management in constructive performance reviews.
- Act as custodian for onboarded physicians incoming tasks, labs and diagnostic reports.
- Addressing patient complaints related to the quality of medical care and issues of professional conduct, in coordination with appropriate Clinic leadership.
- Providing clinical input and feedback to the Clinic Manager, Senior Director of Student Wellness Services, and Director Student Wellness Services regarding physician support, patient care, and support staff performance.
- Responding to physician concerns related to Clinic operations, management, and infrastructure.
- Responding to medical matters affecting University students within Student Wellness Services, including communicable disease outbreaks, health‑related crises, and immunization issues.
- Supporting and consulting on campus health education and promotion initiatives.
- Providing after‑hours availability, as required, for critical laboratory values when the ordering physician is unavailable.
- Contributing to the development of standardized Clinic care, policies and procedures.
- Fostering a strong, unified shared care team approach, supporting collaboration, and communication across the broader care team.

Qualifications / Requirements - Medical Doctor (MD) degree in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).

- CCFP license or equivalent Canadian certification.
- Minimum 5 years of clinical experience, ideally in community health, or primary care.
- Experience in management, supervising, or supporting physicians preferred.
- Strong communication skills written and verbal.
- Ability to work in a team as well as independently.




- Understanding of the reporting requirements for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta an asset.
- Understanding of Information Management, and HIA standards.
- High level of integrity, accountability, and professionalism.
- Understands and is aligned with philosophies around trauma informed practice, Adverse Childhood Experiences, the socio‑environmental determinants of health, and issues related to poverty, mental health and substance use.
- Demonstrated understanding and a commitment to an integrated and team base model.
- Computer competency & experience with an electronic medical record is necessary.
- Strong time‑management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
