We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced full time Manager to be part of our dynamic firm and contribute to our mission of delivering exceptional accounting, tax and advisory services to owner-managed businesses. The successful candidate will be an individual who is excited to join a growth-oriented, fast-paced firm and build strong long-term relationships with clients. Our firm is led by a small group of relatively young partners that take a hands-on approach to helping clients solve problems.
Our leadership group aims to bring best practices from their seasoned experience with the big-four and Canada’s Premier Tax Law Firm to the firm. We support a diverse and interesting range of clients, including real estate and construction, professional services, technology, start-ups, not-for-profits, wholesale and distribution, manufacturing and high-net-worth individuals. Act as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of owner-managed business clients, building strong client relationships and providing practical day-to-day guidance.
Manage compilation and corporate tax compliance files from planning through completion, including coordinating information requests, timelines, budgets and client communication. Review working papers, financial statements, corporate tax returns (T2s) and related schedules for accuracy, completeness and consistency with the client’s business. Identify and resolve common accounting and tax issues that arise in owner-managed business files, including shareholder loans, payroll matters, GST/PST/WCB considerations, dividends, salaries, instalments and year-end planning matters.
Provide basic tax planning and advisory support for clients, and involve the firm’s tax specialists when a matter requires more advanced tax planning or technical analysis. Develop an understanding of each client’s business, key risks and opportunities to deliver added value through timely advice and explicit communication. Monitor file progress in relation to budgets, WIP, due dates, billing and collections, and communicate proactively with partners and clients where issues arise.
Mentor, motivate and coach junior/intermediate team members towards skilled and personal development by setting clear expectations, providing feedback and training. 4+ years of relevant, progressive experience at a public accounting firm. ~ Experience managing and reviewing compilation and corporate tax compliance files for owner-managed businesses. ~ Strong working knowledge of Canadian corporate tax compliance, including T2 corporate tax returns and related schedules. ~ Ability to identify common owner-managed business tax planning opportunities and client issues; advanced tax planning experience is not required. ~ Strong client communication skills, including the ability to explain accounting and tax matters clearly to business owners and high-net-worth clients. ~ Proven people management, coaching and relationship-building skills.
