Manager of Languages Department

The Saskatchewan Indigenous Cultural Centre (SICC) invites applications for the position of Manager of the Languages Department. This position provides leadership, supervision, planning, and accountability for language revitalization initiatives, including resource development, curriculum and learning materials, event coordination, community‑based supports, and departmental administration. The Manager is responsible for ensuring the department’s work is guided by established Languages Department priorities and that these priorities inform planning, reporting, decision‑making, and day‑to‑day operations.
The Manager will ensure the department operates with clear work plans, effective follow‑through, cultural respect, and strong alignment with SICC’s mandate and strategic direction.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support Languages Department staff by setting priorities, assigning work, monitoring progress, and fostering a respectful, accountable team environment.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate language resources, curriculum supports, workshops, learning materials, and community‑based revitalization initiatives.
- Exercise sound judgment, initiative, and problem‑solving in advancing departmental priorities and identifying practical opportunities for improvement.
- Coordinate language‑related events, career development, community engagement, and partnerships with Elders, educators, First Nations, schools, institutions, and other partners.
- Manage departmental administration, budgets, reports, proposals, records,
timelines, and assigned projects with accuracy and follow‑through.
- Ensure all work is culturally appropriate, community‑informed, and respectful of First Nations languages, histories, protocols, and practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education, Indigenous studies, language revitalization, curriculum development, or a related field. Master’s degree is an asset.
- Minimum of five years of professional experience in education, curriculum, language development, or a related area.
- Minimum of two years of supervisory, management, or leadership experience.
- Fluency in one Saskatchewan First Nations language, or a demonstrated commitment to learning one.
- Strong knowledge of First Nations cultures, histories, protocols, and practices.
- Experience with proposal writing, report writing, budgeting, planning, and program administration.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database systems.
- Valid Saskatchewan driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, and willingness to travel.
