Job Summary

Fraser Health provides hospital and community-based health services across the Fraser Valley. The Rehabilitation Assistant role supports residents with rehabilitative activities under the supervision of licensed professionals.

Detailed Overview

Under the general supervision and direction of a senior position such as a Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Registered Nurse or Recreation Therapist, the successful candidate will assist designated residents with assigned rehabilitative activities.

Responsibilities

- Assist residents with mobility and strengthening exercises, walking programs, and activities of daily living.
- Demonstrate the use of prescribed treatment/adaptive devices such as braces, wheelchairs, seating devices, walkers, modified eating utensils, and personal care items.
- Assist residents with dressing, toileting, and related needs and with lifting, transfer, and positioning as directed.
- Transport residents to and from rehabilitative treatment areas using mechanical aids such as wheelchairs and stretchers.




- Attend resident care conferences and other related meetings such as in‑services and educational sessions, and participate in department quality improvement initiatives.
- Report observations of residents’ behaviour and progress to the therapist or nurse, and communicate concerns or changes to the resident’s condition.
- Complete resident care statistics and record programme information per established procedures.
- Set up and organise equipment for related activities, clean and maintain equipment, and report malfunctioning equipment to appropriate staff.
- Maintain established inventory of equipment, devices, and materials.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Completion of a Rehabilitation Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with others.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to organise work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
