We are a family looking for a kind, patient, energetic and dependable caregiver to provide one-on-one care and support for our 3-year-old daughter with autism in our home in Milton, Ontario.
Our daughter is a sweet and active little girl who is currently non-speaking/has limited verbal communication. We are looking for someone who can build a warm and trusting relationship with her while keeping her engaged, safe and active throughout the day.
This is more than a traditional babysitting position. We would ideally like someone who has experience working with young children with autism, developmental differences or speech and communication delays.
Responsibilities
- Provide attentive one-on-one supervision and care Engage her in age-appropriate play and activities Encourage communication, interaction, joint attention and engagement through everyday play Play with her indoors and outdoors and keep her physically active Read books, do puzzles, sensory activities, crafts and other developmentally appropriate activities Help her follow a predictable daily routine Support transitions between activities Assist with meals and snacks Assist with dressing, diapering/toileting and other age-appropriate personal care as needed Accompany her on walks and outdoor activities Follow strategies and recommendations provided by her parents and therapists Keep her play and activity areas tidy and organized Provide a safe, calm and nurturing environment

We would particularly welcome applicants with a background or experience in one or more of the following:
- Autism support Developmental services Early Childhood Education (ECE) Child and Youth Care Developmental Support Work (DSW) Respite care Speech and language therapy support Occupational therapy support Educational assistance Special needs childcare
Formal qualifications in these areas are an asset but are not necessarily required. We are also open to someone who has substantial hands-on experience caring for autistic or developmentally delayed young children and is a positive fit for our daughter.
The right person will be patient, affectionate, playful and genuinely enjoy interacting with a young child. We would like someone who takes initiative rather than simply supervising her and who is comfortable actively engaging her throughout their time together.
We are looking for someone interested in becoming a consistent and familiar person in our daughter’s routine rather than occasional babysitting.
Previous experience with autistic children is strongly preferred. References will be requested. A vulnerable sector/background check will also be required.
