This announcement relates to the posting of a Physician Assistant (PA) to work with the Thrombosis Program at The Hospital for Sick Children. The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is one of the largest paediatric academic health sciences centres in the world. The Thrombosis program started circa 1987, evolving to cover both inpatients and patients followed in the clinic, being the first program of this kind in the world to provide 24/7 clinical coverage exclusively related to children diagnosed with thrombotic disorders.

The PA will work within a multidisciplinary team primarily on the inpatient Thrombosis service under the supervision of Thrombosis staff physicians. The focus will be on the care of children considered at high risk of developing a thrombotic complication, patients newly diagnosed with a thrombotic event, and those receiving an anticoagulant. Of note, some of the thrombotic scenarios may be life threatening and involve high complexity discussions (i.e., placement of vessel stents, use of fibrinolytics, anticoagulation during extracorporeal support therapy [e.g., ventricular assist devices]).

In addition to seeing admitted patients, outpatient activity for children on short-/long-term anticoagulants who are being monitored for thrombotic sequelae, or who are at high risk/seeking counselling for their perceived hypercoagulability, will also be part of the clinical duties. The position includes completing detailed clinical assessments of children, implementing medical directives, coordinating appropriate laboratory and/or imaging investigations, reviewing cases within the medical team, and completing related administrative clinical documentation. Reporting to the Thrombosis program Clinical Director, you will work collaboratively with faculty, trainees, clinical programs, and the multidisciplinary teams across SickKids.

Clinical duties are based on shift work, which may vary over time,



comprising daytime Monday-to-Friday coverage during week days. You will focus on the care of Thrombosis patients in the in-patient and out-patient settings.

Employment Type: Permanent full-time position, 37.50 hours per/week.

Optimal start date: September 2026.

· Daily assessment of pediatric thrombosis patients admitted to the intensive care units/wards

· Complete physical examinations relevant to daily care

· Supervised evaluation and management of patients in clinic and those receiving care in outpatient thrombosis clinic

· Implement medical directives for providing care including but not limited to ordering bloodwork, imaging, medications (i.e., anticoagulants/antiplatelet agents/fibrinolytic/reversing agents), and transfusions

· Produce clinical documentation and reports using electronic medical record systems

· Liaise with consultant services, including the community teams

· Attend relevant Thrombosis patient care and teaching rounds

· Participate in educational sessions and customized paediatric thrombosis PA clinical curriculum Here's What You'll Need

· Educational requirement: Bachelor of Health Sciences (BHScPA) or Master's degree (MPAS) from a university level program.

Note: Individuals with medical degrees (MDs or equivalent) are not eligible





· Eligible certification and membership with the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants (CAPA)

· Registration with CPSO

· Ability to work in a busy clinical setting with appropriate attention to detail

· Respect for patient confidentiality and awareness of issues around age of consent

· Willingness to work according to our hospital policies, procedures and practice thrombosis guidelines

· Ability to recognize clinical scenarios that require immediate attention from the staff physicians and other team members, assisting with patient care in a manner that emphasizes quality and safety

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with children and their family members, as well as members of the multidisciplinary team

· Clinical duties are based on shift work, which may vary over time, but necessarily will include some weekend days

· Strong Information Technology proficiency and experience with EPIC (Electronic Patient Information Chart) considered an asset
