Overview

Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures related to respiratory therapy: assists with in‑service education and provides input into program development.

Responsibilities

- Performs diagnostic and therapeutic assessments, interventions and follow‑ups as related to respiratory therapy such as assisting with cardiopulmonary resuscitation and providing support initiating/maintaining mechanical ventilation support of adults, children and infants, providing airway management, patient evaluation,



and daily care of patients as prescribed.
- Maintains documentation by ensuring reports, records and workload statistics are complete and accurate according to established departmental standards.
- Participates in the interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care goals, therapeutic/diagnostic strategies and program related issues.
- Monitors and performs required maintenance, cleaning, calibration, evaluation and quality control of respiratory and related equipment: reports supply needs as required; maintains relevant logs/reports.
- Participates in quality improvement activities such as the development, implementation and evaluation of written procedures and standards, development of assessment forms and patient materials, and program descriptions as required.
- Provides in‑service education as required.
- Participates in meetings and departmental committees and contributes to problem identification and resolution.
- Participates in Respiratory Therapy student education and various in‑services for staff and the community as required.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

- Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
- Successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care credentialing exam.
- Eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) and British Columbia Society of Respiratory Therapists (BCSRT).
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Level C.
- Possession of and maintained Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
